@soup_reviews well, there is still a rotating component in the door mechanism if you want to get insufferably pedantic
Finally tried this #vegan pancake recipe: https://tasty.co/recipe/the-fluffiest-vegan-pancakes
I can confirm, they are very fluffy and pretty good with chocolate chips. 😋 The apple cider vinegar and almond milk mix smells disgusting, but it doesn't carry into the final product.

@ew I'm not clear on your assertion, but excess deaths are what's being reported for Covid-19 by the CDC and health departments. Looking at totals obscures that somewhat.
Anyway, the disease makes people sick, and kills some people. That's why so much of the world has changed... Although I guess there are alternative interpretations of the world's ongoing response to the virus, the most straightforward explanation is that a deadly pandemic has covered the globe. 🤷
So, getting vaccinated is a concrete thing I can do to prevent people I know and work with from getting sick. Besides, the aches and pains suck, but if they were caused by a self-replicating machine that was destroying my cells, I imagine that would suck more. Good luck
@ew it's true that we can't remove the covid-19 infection and re-run the past year without it, but doctors and researchers have learned about the way the disease affects the body and can make reasonably strong inferences about how the disease would contribute to serious illness and, in some cases, death.
Your statement about age-adjusted death rate doesn't agree with CDC data, which does show an increase. That number is only a starting place though.
https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/mortality-dashboard.htm#
@ew do you have a primary source from the CDC on that? I've seen a similar assertion, and I think it comes from a misunderstanding of CDC data here https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/covid_weekly/index.htm?fbclid=IwAR3xvPBE9Q6NXcwqMIGtg439k100XtMfvy-9YBimKZMOSSRpCwiitPLS3vs#Comorbidities
The fact that there's a comorbidity with Covid-19 doesn't mean that the death would have happened regardless of Covid-19 infection. It's like, if you had someone who was unsteady on their feet and standing near the edge of a cliff when someone pushed them over the edge: sure, it's possible the unsteady person still would have fallen over the edge, but being pushed sure didn't raise the likelihood of a fatal fall.
@ew how do you believe such determinations of death from Covid-19 are actually made? Like, on a process level, when does the diagnosis occur, and what are the steps that lead medical professionals to list Covid-19 infection as a contributing factor to a death?
@ew why do you believe that?
@ew why do you think it isn't dangerous? It has killed hundreds of thousands of people.
@ew Did you have the Moderna vaccine? How was it for you? I had heard the second dose would have a stronger reaction, but I thought I would just shrug it off. The reaction is my immune system working, so I'm glad of that 😁
That second shot of the #Moderna vaccine hit me pretty hard. Aches and soreness all over since last night through today. Happily it's clearing up this evening -- MFer's got sh*t to do.
I've heard of long isekai titles, but this is ridiculous!
"New Light Novel Consists Entirely of One Long Title"
https://www.animemaru.com/new-light-novel-consists-entirely-of-one-long-title/
> Dengeki Bunko announced earlier this week the publication of the first light novel in which the entire content is contained within the title. The novel, written by Yuta Tanaka, consists entirely of a 196-page-long title. The light novel will be published entirely on glossy cover paper, with each page featuring the same picture of the female lead alongside lime green text with a section of the novel’s title.

My cousin came home to find a pigeon built a nest* & LAID AN EGG on her bed.
Luckily, as of last week, I'm a pigeon "expert".
*Pigeons are notoriously terrible nest builders so this one stick constitutes her attempt at a nest.
@Naeva I never thought about this before. So, if we stimulate only M cone cells chemically or electrically, we could potentially cause sensation of an "unreal" green. Or maybe the brain would just not understand the signals and show something weird...
@codeforchaos like how doctors refuse heroic medical interventions (e.g., CPR, intubation)?
@werekat that makes more sense to me. Citing exact page numbers from memory is somewhat believable if it's an often cited passage in the work (assuming some widely published edition), but I have some books I have a pretty good sub-chapter map, at least for some chapters. With thieving government censors...yeah, I could see that.

Mexican Jumping Beans' movement reminds me of the movements of those "evolved digital lifeforms", awkwardly tumbling along reward gradients.
