Ever wanted to make a climate map?

@niconiconi So, I just looked up "active low", and I've seen HTTP interfaces for embedded devices, but I still don't get the joke.
I wonder if #software engineers who never write #documentation just keep answering the same questions over and over again, but they're ok with that. I rarely expect people to read my docs before they ask me something because there's a lot to read, and they won't necessarily know what to attend to, but I save so much time if I can just point at stuff I've already written.

Cool demonstration of a #photolithography technique. I think I first heard about photolithography in high school when some National Instruments guy casually described it during a tour, but I don't think I've had as clear of a picture for the process as I do after this video.
@hfaust I dislike "source" as a verb. There are so many better verbs that describe what's actually being done to actual things
AI rant
@jmw150 yeah, it's important, but I'm not sure how useful it is for machine learning since you can't necessarily train a learner to produce that function approximation in a reasonable timespan
Really interesting story

I actually thought of an interview Lex Fridman had with a sleep researcher (probably this one, https://lexfridman.com/andrew-huberman-2/) about how temperature is a good signal for distributed coordination just before Webster brought up dinosaurs. This is exactly the kind of thing I've been thinking about lately: living systems have all sorts of thresholds like this and we don't know how many of them we're just sidling up to.
This is probably how suckless devs shutdown their machine

@niconiconi recurring donations would help
https://openworm.org/donate.html
OpenWorm is providing important components in the data collection, simulation, and visualization chains, but a lot of the effort is coordinating with labs to share data and get it into a format usable by the wider C. elegans community. Donations can help with things like fees for publication and conferences (helps coordination efforts) or for computer resources (e.g., for simulation, web service hosting). Much more recently, there's also the "studentship" program which should help incentivize data sharing.
I want to make a #tic80 game, but if I do that then the game will need to have an original soundtrack since I can't import something from opengameart.org, and I don't have any skill at all when it comes to composing music.
#openworm opened up recurring contributions with OpenCollective https://opencollective.com/openworm
It's a pretty nice site: you'll be able to see what the funds are spent on and contribute directly to specific things, like studentships
