Those of you who write Free Software, do you primarily:

@freeschool hopefully that's the case for me: if not my only other idea is a very untimely refactor.

@moiety I don't get why such an interface is bad. If you have a recommendation system, isn't it better to give the user an indication of why something was recommended and give them the option to have similar recommendations suppressed or more prevalent? @cwebber

I just learned about an interesting surname and a fun word for thimble: Fingerhut ("finger hat")

Ever have a "great idea" and realize you just rediscovered an idea you came up with nearly a year and a half ago? I have.

@lupyuen I wonder if most of Fortune 500 companies he's "retaliating" against would even have been affected. In my world, any external software is evaluated for junk like this before it's even brought into our development environment. Besides that, it wouldn't make it to prod. So, the ones affected most would be smaller firms or independent or just amateur devs that *think* they can't afford or just don't think they need such processes...

How many websites and organizations ask for your date of birth or the last 4 of your SSN? They don't actually need that information: The only use is as a foreign key in some other database.

@2ck Once deployed it will be a few months of tests etc before it is ready for science but yes everything going really well so far.

i hear is basically in its operational config now, so it just has to reach the Lagrange point. nice

tip: if you open the context menu with a right click and then another click to activate the menu item, you may find that Firefox will activate whichever menu item your cursor happens to be over when the menu opens. This is really annoying for me. I've worked around that previously with a userChrome.css modification to offset the location the menu opens in, but it stopped working. I've found that setting ui.context_menus.after_mouseup to "true"
also works OK for this problem: it opens the menu *after* you release the right click, so there's no unintended activation.

"trot" really does get boring quickly. Like, it's basically the same song over and over, but with different lyrics, and sometimes a different tempo.
