SLS can launch cubesats. that's pretty neat

Energy saving tip number 9
-------------
Slow down...
Drag increases as the square of speed increase, so when you drive faster, you use much more fuel than you may realize.
Driving slower can save up to 40% or more in fuel.
So...
Slow down and enjoy the scenery.

@Pat hah. we can barely get people to just drive the speed limit around here.
Once again, Grant explains things I never quite understood in just a few minutes.

much closer to what I like with this one. baked at 375°F, no oats or any other add-ins, about half whole wheat and half bread flour. I also realized just now that I put in about twice as much yeast per volume of water and flour as usual since I halved all the other ingredients, but I guess it just made proofing faster. crust isn't he hard or soft: just how I like it. I can also get more of the maple syrup aroma than usual.
the shape is just because I got a bit frustrated with the dough and punched it flat, then didn't care to shape it into a proper loaf pan. I get more crust this way, I reckon, so it works out

#metaverse
I forgot, the other reason for a #metaverse is to have a means to have more ways to monetize peoples' every interpersonal interaction through persistent surveillance: when the walls are made of code, all of the walls can have ears
dating apps, metaverse
Dating apps are so unlike how people have naturally met each other for millennia. Leaving aside matchmakers and arranged marriages, and staying with the common people, we meet people in the places we go doing whatever we do in our lives. Dating apps are set up more like picking something out of a catalogue. There are ways of "hanging out" over the Internet: chat programs, forums; however, in the real world, you meet someone and you're past that first barrier of actually being physically present with them vs needing to meet up... That all makes me worry when I think of this "metaverse" nonsense. We should be moving in the direction of more person-to-person interaction, but a metaverse just sounds like either adding things to our experience that we didn't need or want or else we're sinking further into virtual worlds constructed with varying degrees of attachment to reality. The only justification for something like a "metaverse" to exist or grow is to have a place to escape from reality...it's preferable to make reality better for more people.
someone really hates Leo Laporte: there are several websites whose sole purpose seems to be impugning Laporte's character.

I'd like to know the story behind who made all of these. Sounds like a really trashy story 🍿
I quite like this song: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=oyuIHyOBFsU
I had heard that song, Sober Up, by AJR and did not like it because the vocals had this weird, slightly gravely sound that annoyed the heck out of me: I don't detect that here. about the song itself, I think it was the lyrics and... IDK how you say it, but the sort of repetitive, chant of the opening lines that caught me
"a time when immersive digital worlds become the primary way that we live our lives and spend our time". even as someone who frequently posts and reads web content, that sounds hellish.
programs are, fundamentally, tools for control. if we're meditating our interactions with the real world primarily through digital systems, it begs the question of who holds the reigns of that system. with the real world, you have the saving grace that no one can fully architect what can and can't be done, but in a constructed space, there is substantially less freedom.
That's not to say that the systems we have can definitely be fully architected: there are limits to what we can express in code, and formal verification is really hard. (Let's not even start on things like covert channels.) Still, even Mastodon, Twitter, Facebook, etc, shape the kinds of interactions we can have: we have character limits, limits on the number of images per post, but also the clients privilege some actions over others by putting their buttons in more prominent, easily accessible places.
