I don't play video games these days except, occasionally, solitaire or something, but I hope this company works out -- I noticed Morgan Webb is working there and I was a fan back in the G4 days

also they have a couple openings if you're looking for work

@izaya are you goofing? I have 10 virtual desktops and use maybe 5 - how do you use 20??

@nk I said, "lowest level *that there's enough info*". that's not always the lowest level in the company. if you have a group that works on a factory line, they're not likely to have info about several factories across the business. they might have knowledge of some of it, but it's not their job or responsibility to know how all the factories operate, so asking them to make decisions for all of the factories doesn't make sense. contrariwise, the CEO probably doesn't know the work orders coming through the factory or the employee vacation schedule, so directly conducting how the factory operates is usually less effective, and a poor use of the executive's time

@nk hmm. i wasn't thinking of "pushing" in a coercive sense. just, letting decisions happen at the lowest level that there's enough info

@nk you're talking about pushing decisions down to the lowest level?

ok, the summary in the intro is misleading: suggests that the scenario in the thought experiment indicates something true about the universe rather than being an absurd consequence of the theory underlying

having read half the Wikipedia article, it's not clear to me why Boltzmann brains are a thing people consider seriously

@Seirdy
well the whole enterprise of building such a thing seems like overkill for most people. like, even a CEO or something would have the company to tell them what they need to know. if it's a hobby though 🤷‍♂️

@emily @M4ch1n3H34d

@emily
are you doing the personal knowledge engine thing? I attended this talk a few years ago from this guy who has this really refined system of news feeds and personal search engines. yacy was one of the tools he used

@Seirdy @M4ch1n3H34d

@nk i guess that's some fictional character? the app is called Merlin. it's pretty good in my experience, but I don't have all the data on how well it works outside my small area

@trinsec Hardy har har. I know, but I thought they just sounded kinda like other birds, but they're so spot on. there are a heck of a lot of them around here actually, but I only recently started tuning in to bird sounds to the extent i can tell them apart, so I didn't really appreciate their abilities before
