So... time!

Spanish dude here, doing things with computers for a living (pressing buttons to obtain the correct pattern of pixels). Linux and OSS lover for about 15 years. Trying to find simplicity in the current madness.

Unfortunately, currently addicted to the chemical reactions produced by high speeds over two wheel devices.

Trying to be less dumb (or at least, keeping dumbness at bay), but damn it's hard 😂

I helped someone plan to tomorrow. Felt about 5x better than whatever it is I'm doing at my actual job.

@General
I'm watching some old school sci-fi and I just noticed one of the props on the bridge that is there for all four seasons is literally just a painted tennis ball.

They really gave 0 fucked when it came to the old-school scifi.

@maralorn thanks for the tip. Admittedly, part of my complaints are just me working out an understanding of the language. I tend to hack my way through a language first, but I need to go back and read more documentation so I'll know about things like `trace` (I think I had seen it in a guide before but forgot about it)

I've been enjoying .

My heart goes out to the unnamed skeleton warrior, even though it doesn't have one.

@freemo Oh, it's a kind of fun, and the fact that I have to slow down so much is evidence that I'm learning, but I worry that the kinds of questions I want to ask and the answers to them are just evidence that "I'm thinking about things the wrong way" and you "just don't do that in Haskell". I've sort-of gotten over that doing pretty basic stuff with IO requires using an abstruse mathematical concept, but it's frustrating that I have to jump through hoops in this type system to do what I want while I still don't feel I'm getting much out of that system (other than the intellectual challenge).

Does anyone consider to be their most productive language? Tracing and debugging other people's code happens to be the most common thing I do (because writing expressive, stable, non-leaky abstractions is hard), but it's like pulling teeth in Haskell. If I understand correctly, I need to map into an IO monad (or whatever the hell you call it) just to print out some value in a function: how do you get anything done this way?

TIL you can write a curried function in Racket like this:

(define (((f arg1) arg2) arg3)
...)

@pganssle gratified to find someone else who appreciates a low desk. perennial problem for me: desk doesn't go low enough or chair doesn't go high enough.

I think I went with Fully because it was less expensive (10's of $$) and height range (though it only goes to 24.5''). Also free shipping in the USA. The cable mgmt is pretty weak though -- the adhesive-backed clips (clamps?) fell off repeatedly...eventually had to screw them on.

BINGO! Got the load baalancer working.. now i just need to commit all this and push it and the group server can go live!!!

Gotta love kids show theme songs that say exactly who the characters are and what they're gonna do. 'cause these kids need the *facts*. Like, "Only so many hours in a day: I got blocks need stacked, toy trucks need a *vroom vroom*--what's👏 it👏about👏?

@cauf
Well, I was looking for XMMS2 buddies.😁 Sometimes I do throw a few messages of languages I don't know into Google Translate though.

@tennoseremel

@tennoseremel @cauf Ha, wow. We are a small minority. XMMS2 is pretty clearly in maintenance mode. Daniel Svensson is still merging pull requests though.
