How is it that the wiki became the de facto place for so much generic (e.g., XDG, X11) desktop configuration help?

Protip:

A product can only be branded and sold as "computing" if it uses the HTTP PUT verb. If it uses HTTP POST, it's "composting". If it uses HTTP GET, it's "comegetsome".

If it uses Object Management Group, Web Hypertext Application Technology, and Internet Engineering Task Force standards, the product must be branded as "OMG/WHAT/TF"

Dang, but I can really use this: git-scm.com/docs/git-worktree
We generally have long-lived support branches in our repos that get worked on alongside main development. I had made do with alternately checking out support/develop or maintaining completely separate clones, but worktrees could make for a cleaner workflow.

I didn't know had this feature.. The example of attaching a "tested by" note is cool -- we could probably use this to attach summary test results and CI build statuses.

Nice. Looks like it's easier to do recursive queries in (e.g., for graphs). I remember this was a pain-point for me a few years ago.

Getting some weird emails lately. Woman's name in the "To" line (e.g., "Mary", "Lisa"), inconsistent email address (has a man's name), message body like "Do you use this email?" I reply, curious about the scheme: I get follow up emails in German (I'm not German. I don't know the language) asking me to visit a website. Like, is just being weird a tactic in phishing?

Always fascinating to see the ways humans work with animals.

(I don't think I'd be putting *my* face anywhere near that close to sharp beak though 😬 )

Wow. Just skipping the lower half of the planet. "diversity" is a bit skewed... youtu.be/7PrLRlpDDh4?t=311

Alright people, Advent of Code is starting today. If you don't know what this is, you can check it out here: https://adventofcode.com/2020/about

It's basically an advent calendar where you get new problems to solve by using programming. As long as you get the right solution, it's all what matters. Beginners can also join in. The first days shouldn't be too difficult and are great practice. As for others, it might be an opportunity to try and pick up a new language

I made a leaderboard for fedi with this code: 718119-707e3848

The point system is a bit lame but what matters really is how many days you last doing those challenges. Of course there's no restriction on who can join. It'd be better though if we are able to tell which fedi user is behind which username on the leaderboard~

That's it, have fun!

A line is parallel to itself:

I recall the conversation around human germline editing, at least popularly, used to be much closer to "No, let's not do that" because of the potential for engineering a class of humans with heritable genetic advantages or disadvantages and all of the dystopian outcomes that entails, like a more perfectly controlled slave race or deeper disparities in health outcomes between wealthy and poor people. GP-Write is much more equivocal on that question. Essentially they say, "We're not doing that now, but we could later if it's technically legal and we get funding"

it's funny that Hessel assumed there would be consent and contracts for acquiring some desirable genome. after-on.com/episodes/0004

Cool little video. I had tried hacking together a nailset before just going out and buying a set of them for about $7 m.youtube.com/watch?v=zSspWqHs

How come none of the administration says anything about the many dangerous weapons Giles keeps in the library? Really strains my suspension of disbelief. 🤨😄

I wonder if packaging on could be more modular. I'm looking at the ~30 changelog entries in the past year and I don't think that much has changed in starting up *my* system to justify this volume of changes.
