Thanks to @helene and @rin soon we will have the ability to repeat old GNU Social posts on SPC and have them federate to remote servers. The first SPC post ever, which I am replying to, has been successfully propagated across the network.

Who wants to guess what the highest setting icon on my new water heater is supposed to represent? My best guess is "unfreezing rags".

Carbon is literally only for if you have a large C++ codebase you want to get out from under. That's it. If you aren't burdened with a big legacy-but-alive C++ project then it is not for you and you can ignore it.

If you've not looked into the history of the X Windowing System you absolutely should because it's astounding that we even have a functioning display server today with all the shit that went on during 90's and early 2000's.

Yes this is me teasing a video

I hate when I follow someone who seems interesting/fun and then they post conspiracy garbage that's so batshit insane it actively makes me depressed to see so I have to unfollow them to keep relative sanity.
Fedi is cool, but the way people get here selects for insanity a tad too much.

Imagine having to do actual calculations to convert from pounds to stones or inches to feet instead of just writing the decimal value and moving the point when needed, get your shit together people.

The benefits of the metric system for the general populace cannot be overstated. The ease of converting between different magnitudes of a unit so that instead of asking for 150 grams or 0.15 kilograms of ham you can ask for 15 deca(grams), or quickly converting between millimeters, centimeters, meters and kilometers so that you don't have to deal with fractions of an inch to go lower or multiply by bullshit arbitrary values to go from inches to feet, yards and miles to go higher (or measure in hundreds/thousands of feet lmfao) is just invaluable and saves a lot of time and effort over years of casual everyday use.
It's baffling that the US and partially the UK are still sticking with the medieval ways, and when I see the lengths people there have to go for simple conversions I feel blessed to have been born in Europe.
