They take very little time, unlike chemo. The machine is only actually zapping me for maybe 20 seconds. The rest of the five minute visit is getting into position and checking to make sure everything is lined up correctly. I'm nerdy enough to actually be excited to go there; it's REALLY COOL that my species knows how to do that stuff. 😀

I'm really curious as to what that thing on the table is. It looks like something metal with a handle maybe. Very curious.

This is the radiation machine I've had 30 dates with so far. (Not all at once; it was 10 days, 15 days, and 5 days at different times. Each was for a different part of the body.) Doesn't it look friendly, with its arms reaching out for a hug?

It uses shaped and focused X-rays. There's one of the fancy ultra-modern proton beam ones a couple of hours from me in Scottsdale (Mayo), but my oncologist explained to me how I'm best served by this one. And this one is about a mile from my house. 😃 In fact, everywhere I need to go for illness--related stuff is about a mile away in one direction or another. How lucky is that!

Since nothing else looks like a cross, I presume you're talking about the object at 2 o'clock? That doesn't seem very much like a Christian cross to me, as the vertical below the join should be longer.

Do we know that that shape was used as a symbol of Christianity in that place and time? I've seen that equal-arm-length cross used to represent a star, for example, but have no idea about that specific locale.

No way to know, I guess. If social media gets swamped with bots of that sort, it'll be the end. I have no doubt there are people evil enough to want to do just that.

From what I've read, mantras weren't a thing yet in the 7th century. (in China, that is) as they hadn't been imported pet from Tibet. Ah, but do I have a citation for that? No, I don't and don't remember where I read it. It may have even been you. 😀

Absolutely! For some reason, I've found myself in random conversations with strangers lately. It might be a Mastodon side effect-- I've become acquainted with quite a few people here simply by conversing with them about something interesting they're doing, and it's carried over into real life. There are fewer complete doofuses out in the world than I presumed before.

Well, dang. That sounded interesting and I started to read it, but I don't have a subscription so I didn't get very far. Maybe warn people next time about the subscription requirement? That level of disappointment isn't life-changing or anything, but it's not nothing, either. Thanks!
