The "I" in AI stands for "intelligence".

I'm not buying into a game where others can use the word intelligence with all that implies to sell their snake-oil, but I'm not allowed to criticize it for doing the bad things intelligent things can do like lie, or cheat. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, you're justified in calling it a duck and treating it accordingly.

When a supposed AI glibly gives me a made-up answer because the real answer isn't in its corpus, as opposed to "I don't know" - that's a lie, kids.

It's a real problem - people get killed for it. There's collateral damage - ships running no lights on a busy river in the dark of night are a hazard to other shipping.

Turns out the sand needed for construction is fairly rare at this point.

Note also that concrete-quality *sand* is becoming a rare commodity. There are *sand pirates* who come in under the cover of darkness and illegally dredge up and steal "the good sand". Which is fascinating.

Irrelevant, unless you want to explain why the very ground beneath your feet isn't also included in "most used substances" along with the air you breathe.

Concrete is very heavily used *in construction* - but the article neglects that qualifier. Unless you live on top of a cement plant, the concrete (as cement and aggregate, or as mixed slurry) is absolutely delivered to you. Add that all up, and we still transport more coal. (By weight or volume? Not sure.)

Mmmmmm. CNBC needs better editors. I'll buy it's the most used *construction material* - but the most used commodities today are coal, iron ore, and wheat, in terms of bulk amounts shipped.

If they felt that strongly about the 20% gratuity - they should have paid the rest of the bill, at least. This was simply theft. I'm not a fan of tipping, and even less of a forced gratuity, but the solution is to refuse to do business there (and tell them why) - not dine and dash.

Depends on your goals. On dedicated private hardware where speed is a factor - it's awesome.

If I am a suspect for murder - they put me in jail pending trial, even though I have not been found guilty. Maybe there's bail, or maybe I'm held without bail. How is this different?

The custody-until-trial isn't a punishment - it's (apparently in this case) a necessary requirement to prevent the suspect from tampering with the process or fleeing - if I read this right:

If a suspect is saying things about court personnel that is leading to actual death threats - this would seem to apply.

So, confusion: aren't prohibitions against certain activities like skipping town or witness intimidation part of the agreement the court makes with the defendant to allow them release prior to the trial? It seems if Trump doesn't want to agree to behave, he has/had the option to reject that agreement and cool his jets in custody (presumably house arrest with supervision) until the trial date.

What am I missing here?
