Reorganizing my office is slow, because I keep encountering old projects that I want to fix up. These fiber optic hyperbolic paraboloids from two years ago had LED strips secured with duct tape that was starting to peel off, so I printed new covers to replace the tape, and clips to secure them to the frame mechanically. I added the STL files to the project write up which is on my blog: https://www.geekmomprojects.com/fiber-optic-hyperbolic-paraboloid/

Forgot to announce the winner yesterday! There were 3 correct answers (some were via dm) - and @axwax wins the random drawing and resistor bender! Honorable mentions to @smitty and @borisbuilds who also got it right.

A selection of my past projects. Mainly PCBs and LEDs.

You're not weird
You're limited edition

The holidays can be a really tough time. The advice I often heard was, "Volunteer at a soup kitchen. Help others. Get out of your head." It's perfectly fine advice, but unhelpful if the mere thought of interacting with people is overwhelming. Anyway, here's a thing I did one year that did help:

I bought a Cookie Monster costume, went to the airport, and waited at arrivals with a sign that said "COOKIE"

Didn't have to talk to anyone and boy did I get to watch people's faces light up.

Reading a Wired article about Flipper Zero which is a $200 device that can be used to capture and replay data transmitted over radio signals like NFC, RFID and blue tooth.

It’s gone viral on TikTok as people have shown outlandish hacks as many of these protocols were not designed with security in mind.

You can find the article here https://www.wired.com/story/what-is-flipper-zero-tiktok/

“White” is NOT a race…although it is codified as such [see any government application]

“Whiteness” is a moving target that expands and contracts based on who, in that moment, is ALLOWED to benefit from and leverage its systems, institutions, and policies of white supremacy and anti-Blackness

Who’s “white” changes whenever those in power need to distract its beneficiaries, from addressing the inherent harm and violence that is white supremacy; making them a complicit partner in exchange

Pour one out for all of the security practitioners who are going to have to spend the holidays patiently explaining that using a password manager is still good, actually, to people who have glanced at a headline about the latest LastPass breach.

To all my LGBTQIA sisters and brothers.

Once this idea came into my head, it refused to go away until I tried it. So now you can all share in my build of "Frosty the Glowman."

Making progress on putting up IKEA SKÅDIS pegboard on all of my lab's vertical surfaces. The one on the left is mounted to my BEKANT adjustable standing desk, and has a KUNGSFORS magnetic knife rack mounted to it with 3D printed hooks. It makes a perfect #PCB #badge display.
Still working out where everything goes. So far it's a great way to keep everything I need close, but off of my precious horizontal work surfaces.
