I watch a lot of short YouTube clips about TV & movies. One theme is "This famous actor/comedian improvised these lines! They were so great they were kept in the movie!"

Why? To boost the idea that actors can be spontaneously funny? OR is it that writers aren't enough?

Does it confuse people to say, "The hilarious lines of Mr. Burns were written by Jay Kogen."?
