Via the U.S. Geological Survey, on Tuesday, a small debris flow was detected by several of Mount Rainier's lahar monitoring stations, likely the result of an outburst of water from the South Tahoma Glacier that grew into a debris flow, which isn't surprising given the current heat wave in WA.

i know a ton of parents driving up to dallas in the next few days to help freshmen move into the dorms at UTD.

the temperatures there this weekend look like death valley. i guess this is just the way of things now?

it’s bad enough being stuck in an office when it’s 102° in austin. again. like a solid month now.

but it’s totally on another level carting your kids detritus across campus when it’s 112° and you’re losing your parental shit because your babies are leaving.

Oh cool, fireworks
Why? Just stop. It's after midnight, you bastards (all fireworks are a bad choice tho, whatever time it is)

Just as southern states like Georgia are not all-red, the Georgia Republican Party is not all-maggot. But it does have some genuine looneys like Kandiss Taylor and useless puppets like Buddy Carter.

Box stand-off.

A reminder that the proper way to test for #Covid19 using a RAT is swab the throat, cheeks, then nasal. Too many are just swabbing the nose (and not deep enough) and missing a positive test. Also, if you start feeling ill, and test negative, do it again 2 days later.

There's something really nice seeing the market flip, and the juggernaut software company working on features to "take on" the smaller competitor.

Every time I've seen someone use Canva, it was to avoid Adobe. The complexity, the cost, the irrelevant features to what they needed to do. Bravo.

"To reverse engineer an entire nervous system" by Haspel et al. 2023 https://arxiv.org/abs/2308.06578

... in which the authors discuss why and how to tackle the brain of the nematode #Celegans.

The engineers throwing down the gauntlet!

@kordinglab I'd start by splitting all neurons into axon and dendrite ... its fairly obvious from the anatomy as recorded at the WormBase, and would let you simplify the activation function of each neuron.
