Since I'm stuck with Windows as my daily driver on my desktop, I'm trying to find a decent free (not ad supported) or open source Windows MP3 player that isn't:

Audacious, AIMP, Winamp, VLC...

And that gives me an artist list rather than just "Here's a list of 50,000 MP3s".

Searching is useless because it always shows up the same suspects.

Just figured I'd ask to the Masto hive mind.

As the saying goes, "culture eats strategy for breakfast" but it also eats best intentions for lunch and free resources for dinner.

Culture is *generative*. When it gets out of whack, and developers are allowed to value their own interests above users, the scale of the principal-agent problems that get generated are proportional to the tech dependence of the org. Tech companies can literally die on this hill.

Glynis Johns, the upbeat leading lady with the British charm who starred as the spirited feminist mother Winifred Banks in Mary Poppins, has died. She was 100.

Plus, she memorably sang “Send in the Clowns,” which Stephen Sondheim wrote just for her, in her Tony Award-winning performance as Desiree Armfeldt in the original 1973 production of A Little Night Music.

FYI I'm not cheap and I'm not a boat.

But I'm probably Sinking Soon.

Corporate Media Fed COP 28 Carbon Capture Confusion

Rather than exposing CCS as the greenwashing ploy it essentially is, some reporting adding to the confusion and misunderstandings.

No, MS. I don't want a Copilot key any more than I wanted a Windows key.

I recently read something, either here or on Bluesky, about a theory that part of English's popularity was due to the fact that it was fairly loose in rules, and that mistakes often didn't lead to it being misunderstood - can anyone point me to that thing I read but can't now find?

Too bad potato breeder Dr. Anna Levina isn't on Mastodon. I'd love to see if I'm right in thinking that what's sold as russet potatoes in the US have been optimized for french fries (the big McDonalds, etc market). When I try to make home fries with them now, they just crumble apart at the edges so much more readily than they used to. #PlantBreeding #Food @plantscience
