Reading about the period immediately after the Civil War in Harriot's "Black AF History", the vibe is very much "S2E1 of a series that wasn't expecting to be renewed, so they needed to bring back the villains and reestablish peril." #history

I’ve used GitHub for 15 years. It isn’t *better* than it was all those years ago. It’s just much slower and has more bugs.

Unsolicited advice: Don't think, just memorize the incorrect information. Turn off the learned part of your brain, the scholar who wants to answer with the correct information.

My poor, patient British partner listened to me rant through the "study" process and admitted to not knowing answers to MANY of the questions.

Once you've passed, you can bond with other new British about the appalling questions and "answers".

> If you asked, on the day of the Confederate surrender who owed restitution to the slaves, it would be quite clear that the restitution was due from the slave holding aristocracy, and that that restitution should have come about via the distribution of the slave estates to the former slaves – converting them into a class of free peasants.

Looks like DeSantis got DeBanked.

"The reason linguistic & cognitive decline often go hand in hand, studies show, is that fluency reflects the performance of the brain’s prefrontal cortex, the seat of higher-order cognitive functions such as working memory, judgment, understanding, & planning, as well as the temporal lobe, which searches for & retrieves the right words from memory. Neurologists therefore use tests of verbal fluency, and especially how it has changed over time, to assess cognitive status. Are you sensitive?

This was a question during my neuropsych eval on Friday. I could think of at least two ways to answer it, depending on the meaning of the word sensitive - so of course I answered both ways . It was a long answer. A lot of my answers were long.

How would you answer this (terribly vague) question?

NOTE: Also please feel free to ignore the question and rant with me about how ridiculous the assessment criteria can be.

Cool.

"Recently, micro-CT scans of the egg case revealed not only that it was millions of years old, but also that it was most likely made by a grasshopper. [...] This newly documented knowledge paints a clearer picture of that ancient ecosystem, confirming that grasshoppers were present and thriving there — and that some types of grasshoppers were burying their eggs underground."
