Jimmy Carter is 99 today!

Growing up in the UK Carter was the first US president I was aware of. My parents owned a copy of his biography too for some reason.

All I knew the US for at the time was a whole bunch of TV my parents watched. (I was a little too young to remember Vietnam.)

Commercial : "Fill your home with fall essentials from #HobbyLobby"

Me, for lots of reasons -

Rare for an economist, Deaton offers a lucid and unsparing critique of America's political system. From healthcare to taxation to poverty to regulations, Deaton sees a system that has increasingly served monopolistic corporations and the rich over ordinary citizens, allowing "a minority to prey on the majority."

This really showcases how weak the #Lemmy infrastructure is.

If a rogue moderator or admin decides to nuke an entire community of thousands of people’s works & a long history, and scrub the existence of that group so well the name of it is even lost, there are fragments of that group mirrored across hundreds of other nodes. The community & history should be rebuilt in less than 1 hour on a new host (perhaps the host with the 2nd most amount of content).

- Summary: A new report from Common Sense Media has found that around half of 11- to 17-year-olds receive at least 237 notifications on their phones every day, with some receiving up to 5,000 in 24 hours. This constant influx of phone prompts can have an impact on cognitive ability, attention span, and memory in teenagers whose brains are still developing. Many teenagers try to control their online activity by using "do not disturb" settings on their smartphones, but the allure of notifications remains strong. The report suggests that schools should work with young people to help them have some control over their phone use.

Walker and all: Alice Cooper Has No Plans to Retire: ‘I’ll Be Up There at 90’ - The Messenger

Just heard ZZ Top sing, 'She's got legs, and she knows how to use them.'

Someone should tell them this is unremarkable. Virtually every girl has legs, and we've known how to use them for 95%-99% of our lives.

They must have been feeling uninspired on the songwriting front.

I’ve treasured Buffalo Mountains (1913) by Arthur Streeton (1867 - 1943) for many years. The granite formidable and enduring, truly ancient. #Castlemaine #Art #Museum
