Welcome to the new week! Sunset ticked forward to 5.08pm today, and stay tuned for a mini milestone tomorrow!

Last year, Big Tech companies (Alphabet, Amazon, Apple, Meta, and Microsoft) received about $3.04 billion in fines for breaking laws on both sides of the Atlantic. As of seven days and three hours into 2024, they had already earned enough revenue to pay it all off.

fines aren't working. govt needs to give them 3 trillion dollar fines or actually make privacy laws, and break up these tech monopolies.

The People's CDC has a new #COVID report[1] out that is worth a read (its pretty short).

TLDR:

- There is more covid circulating than at any time since summer '22.

- All States reporting wastewater data are high or very high.

- Booster adoption is abysmally low, especially compared to flu shots

Boudica investigating the consult room, whilst we waited for the vet.

She doesn’t like the one we saw today. Lowered and pushed herself into the crook of my arm when he came in!

"The whole Erlang ecosystem is perfect for a fediverse server. I guess if it’s good enough for telecom companies using it to handle millions of calls, it’s good enough for us to handle a few thousand funposts." — @lain (the creator of Pleroma social networking system)

Ugh, I just pulled a dumbass move and sent some phishing asshole impersonating my boss my cell number.

Nothing they couldn't have gotten off of my resume, but annoying to have been tricked.

"Get a bidet." they told me.

"It's so much cleaner!" They insisted.

I can’t find the post now but someone said, “Apple Vision Pro got great reviews from those who tried it last year!”

My 1st thought may be a little too cynical but (not meaning any offence to those who were given demos by Apple) I thought, “Well, of course they were positive. Being negative means you probably wouldn’t be invited back for other demos.”

Not to impugn the objectivity or reputation of those who got demos but I wouldn’t base *any* judgements, good or bad, on their demo commentary.

"Our research showed that everyone tends to adapt their lifestyles around 15-minute journeys if parks and grocery stores are available within that radius: If we build it, they will come."
