"7 and a half cents,
Doesn't buy a heck of a lot.
7 and a half cents,
Doesn't mean a thing.
But give it to me every hour,
40 hours every week,
That's enough for me to be,
Living like a king!"
-- "The Pajama Game" (1957)

Ok, it seems I still have a job. I also still stand by my morning rant. The tech industry has made mass layoffs with public announcements part of the way of doing business. It doesn’t have to be this way.

My view, not that anybody asked.

The Border Security/Immigration issue is either an urgent one, or it isn't.

If #Republicans are willing to step away from the BIPARTISAN bill simply because #DonaldTrump wants to blame #JoeBiden and use it as a campaign issue, then it's not an "urgent" issue, is it? It's a "political" one.

Republicans need to stop lying to #Americans

I wonder how many tanks and apaches the TX state guard has…

Why are oligarchs so hellbent in turning everything into a hellscape? Why can’t they just sit atop their gold and guard it and leave everyone alone???

RE: mstdn.social/@Npars01/11181995

The RNC wants Trump to forego the nomination process and crown him the Republican nominee right now – but Trump essentially said, "Thanks, but no thanks".

Is the RNC trying to position itself strategically should Trump be convicted (and imprisoned)? I think the truth of what is going on behind the curtain here lies in the fine print of the RNC's rules/bylaws.

- Summary: A new study led by Canadian federal scientists found that emissions of organic carbon from Alberta's oil sands are up to 6,300% higher than reported, making up the majority of Canada's organic carbon emissions. This discovery is significant as organic carbon pollutants contribute to fine particulate matter and gases like ozone, which have major health and climate impacts. Past monitoring has overlooked volatile organic compounds associated with heavy oil deposits. With an estimated 1.7 trillion barrels of oil, the Alberta oil sands account for most of Canada's oil production and a significant portion of its carbon pollution. The researchers emphasize the need for improved monitoring and reporting of organic carbon emissions to accurately assess the impacts of oil sands operations.

You can’t get much more remote than the Chatham Islands, a bumpy plane ride 840km east of Ōtautahi. A group of Te Pūnaha Matatini investigators visited this special place to connect with the community and the taonga species that make their islands unique tepunahamatatini.ac.nz/2024/01

Greta Thunberg’s Friday’s for Futures protest today was focused on #Palestine and she is acting all young #climatechange activists to lend their support.

Ugh. Evangelist born-again christians managed to squeeze their little self-righteous selves in and started performatively praying at people. And for some reason most people around here get upset if I treat those like other pests.

Of course, any hint of confrontation and those little dew-eyed professional victims go positively tumescent at the prospect. Martyrdom and persecution-fanfic religions are so weird. Is it a blessing or a curse that I'm stuck in the one most notable for it's adherents utter devotion to being everything their book preaches against and not having the decency to feel shame nor the common courtesy to kill themselves for their god. Hypocrites.
