@adamdavidson For me the move to @Mastodon as part of the #twittermigration has been a fascinating study in human behavior, and yes the debate is good. The platform had been here awhile, had a history and stakeholders and culture (including past conflicts and problem-solving), including the decentralized nature. Some new arrivals were immediately in take-charge mode; others like tourists rolling off a bus and bellying up to the bar; some curious and respectful, others dismissive.

Hi, I'm a computational linguist: I develop models of how people learn language and use language, and I test those models on real-world data. One focus of my work has been on lexical semantics, looking at how the meanings of words can be learnt from context, and indeed how meanings should be represented in the first place. This work is necessarily interdisciplinary, drawing on linguistics, philosophy of language, cognitive science, and machine learning.
