New #climate #lawsuit filed by legendary climate scientist Dr. James Hansen, Carbon Majors author Richard Heede, climate psychiatrist Lise Van Susteren, retired EPA scientist Donn Viviani, and Oregon-based public interest org Climate Protection & Restoration Initiative. Their argument: Greenhouse gases are pollutants and ought to be regulated as such under the Toxic Substances Control Act. Interesting case to watch! I've seen some chatter suggesting that Mastodon uses "algorithms" and "AI" for different functions. This is false.

1) There are no special "algorithms" for generating feeds; your home feed is stuff you follow, your local feed is stuff from your server, the federated feed has stuff from other servers, hashtag feeds show hashtags.

2) No AI is used to do image detection or content warnings. There is no AI or ML code in the default stack; any feature like that would have to be added.
