Lotta complaining about the unintuitiveness and learning curve of Mastodon from people who use Excel on a daily basis.

It’s really sad for people who lost their trusted online home in #Twitter with the Mail takeover. He really shows who he is now by firing half the staff blindly, he simply doesn’t care about the human aspect.

Try to see it positive since now you have discovered a place that’s as much as fun and probably even more! We may not have the numbers but we make up for that by kindness and interaction with each other🥰♥️

I've made a deliberate choice against a quoting feature because it inevitably adds toxicity to people's behaviours. You are tempted to quote when you should be replying, and so you speak at your audience instead of with the person you are talking to. It becomes performative. Another quick PSA for the newcomers:

There is no Mastodon.

As in, there is no entity out there called Mastodon that needs to "get it together" or "make things easier."

Every server is a unique collection of hardware and software operated by a unique team of (usually) volunteer humans funded by (usually) donations.

Some days will be smoother than others. We new folks have flooded the network. Cut the volunteers some slack. Better yet, offer support.

The idea that federation prevents full-text search or the creation of a daily “main character” is turning me into a Mastodon believer.

Because Mastodon is self-hosted, the best way to verify your identity is to get the IT department at your org to set up a Mastodon server on your domain.
