The Great Barrington Declaration was not "science," it was a political document.

Its authors never wrote out their plan with specifics and supporting evidence. When asked *in a court of law* to elaborate they could not.

Combatting every single stupid thing these fascists say is how they want you to waste your time. Stop falling for the micro and focus on the macro.

Donald Trump and the RNC spent almost $2 billion during the 2020 campaign -- but they claim that Twitter's moderation decisions prevented them from getting their message out to the people. Uh-huh.

Okay. I took the @jeffjarvis recommendation and turned on the Advanced mode. Recommended.

@HappyShappys gerrymandering does not explain routine Republican victories in state-level contests... any time that Trump doesn't get involved.

@RyokoPilled Yes, he's happy to ban those who criticize alt-right street fighters like Andy Ngo. He's also happy to mock the entire mission of the ADL.

@alexwinter I think you're massively over-estimating what fraction of twitter users are complaining about Elon. Many more are there to talk about sports or pop-culture or whatever and are happy to let him turn it into an alt-white propaganda platform in the background. Maybe by complaining about Twitter on Twitter I can convince some of them to leave. Aside from the frivolous uses, there are many people who still use it to communicate important (life-saving) information and don't yet see Mastodon as a real alternative. It's going to take years before Mastodon could replace Twitter as a mass-communication platform.

Don't ever let someone scold you with "you're holding it wrong" when it comes to how you use #Mastodon.

I follow... *checks profile* ...a metric fuckton of people.

Some of those barely follow anyone. Some don't post at all. And some post constantly, narating the story of their lives.

And I'm fine with all of that. I don't mind the volume or the noise. I know how to find the signal now. All I want is to help people make connections.

This is a social network. But what that means is up to you.

Elon Musk/Twitter

I've always found Elon Musk to be annoying, obnoxious, and awful; now I'm pretty sure he's just straight-up evil (not that there are a whole bunch of non-evil billionaires out there).

What he's doing over on Twitter right now targeting Yoel Roth is just disgusting. Just QAnon/Pizzagate/Satanic Panic shit, and he knows it. I worry this won't end well.

The adorable Venezuelan poodle moth was discovered and photographed in 2009 by Dr. Arthur Anker. It’s supposedly the only sighting of this critter, but insects are small and Earth is big. #nature #photography

Just imagine the diversity of species we haven’t found yet…

Meanwhile, while Musk and his pals are rewriting history, he’s actively letting thousands of banned right-wing extremists back onto the platform while explicitly targeting left-wing users that the far-right wants ejected from Twitter.

The response shouldn’t be to go on about free speech and open debate. That’s a narrative that serves the right. We need to recognize that this is a power game that the right has been winning for a while, and this is the latest phase.

@andy My impression is that Mastodon is very concentrated among rich countries (western Europe, USA, Japan)... I'd like to see a program to support instances that serve the rest of the world.

More details emerge about the mood inside Twitter soon after the acquisition

An anonymous emailer to the popular Ask a Manager website shared a number of previously unknown details of the chaos inside the company following Elon Musk's acquisition of the platform.

Among them is the revelation that Musk's lawyer Alex Spiro told teams "how Elon had launched rockets before, so we should trust his vision."

"People started asking more questions, and then one employee started getting visibly upset and started having a panic attack — she was crying and was on the floor. Alex didn’t know how to handle the situation so pretty much ignored her and the conversation essentially ended at that point."

According to the correspondent, those who decided to stay at the company "were mainly people who needed healthcare, were about to go on maternity/paternity leave/etc."

This one makes me laugh every year… because it is so very true.
