Why US tech journalists have such a hard time recognising #Mastodon & the concept it is based on as the next step in advancement seems to stem from something deeply rooted in US culture, something #SiliconValley is built on: Tech Hero Worship. They need someone to idolise, a captain at the helm, a saviour. They need & want a Steve Jobs, a Larry Page, #Bezos, and follow & enable the next best: #ElonMusk, #ElizabethHolmes, #SBF, the list is endless.

I guess it's not a bad thing, but I've noticed that, often, reporting in silos is, IMO, a disservice to readers because it deprives them of important context.

There are many legitimate reasons to track Elon Musk's flight coordinates, for example to offer him ads more relevant to his interests

One point I do want to make clear: Twitter is Elon Musk's website. He paid all that money and can ban whoever he wants. It's his right, just like it's our right to point out when he's spreading bad information and contradicting himself.

When someone is not honest, thin-skinned, lacks empathy, and is completely self-interested, the wise course is to distance oneself from his reach. This is especially true where he regularly disposes of or betrays people who annoy or impede him in his personal life. Don’t psychoanalyze. Don’t ogle at the hypocrisy. Just get away.

The private jet tracking account @elonjet being banned from Twitter reminds me of Christian Fuchs' alternative, socialist concept of privacy:
