I'm never come close to re-creating this shot of a belted kingfisher in flight. It was my nemesis bird for much of 2020.
My shutter speed for this was 1/2500

Here's a thought:
"If children are slaughtered in their school and your reaction is 'Don't you dare think about taking my guns!!' rather than 'How do we stop this from ever happening again??' then we don't have a difference in political opinion. We have a difference in morality."

Douglas Adams wrote, 'The answer to everything was 42.
Does he mean that the answer to everything is rainbows?
Rainbows arc at 42 degrees. The prettiest natural phenomena ever, it make me so happy to see them.
Btw, when you sometimes see two rainbows together, the band that separates them, is called the Alexander band. Also, the secondary rainbow's colours are always inverted.

Gas giants orbiting our sun show a clear pattern; the more massive the #planet, the lower the percentage of “heavy” #elements (anything other than #hydrogen and #helium) in the planet’s atmosphere. But out in the #Galaxy, the #atmospheric compositions of giant planets do not fit the solar system trend, an international team of #astronomers has found.

OK,
#Fediverse hive-mind. I'm working on #TwitterMigration research on higher reach individuals on Twitter that have already migrated to the Fediverse, and have not left #Twitter... at least not yet.
Am looking for accounts on Twitter that have about 500K followers and higher and are also here.
▶️ Am I missing any accounts?
Boost this around to help share it, want to make this as complete as I can. Thanks

@south_lib This is what I found. Cell theory would be one of those things we couldn't teach kids.

@Kitchi Link to the bill: https://leg.mt.gov/bills/2023/billhtml/SB0235.htm
The (IMHO) critical part of the bill:
"a scientific fact is observable and repeatable, and if it does not meet these criteria, it is a theory that is defined as speculation and is for higher education to explore, debate, and test to ultimately reach a scientific conclusion of fact or fiction."
If a concept is considered a "theory," it can't be taught in public schools.

@ProPublica I mis-read the headline because it was missing the $ sign and thought (with wonder and hope) that they were saving millions of people! I'm usually not an optimist (but maybe I need an opthamologist)

A Utah parent says the Bible contains porn and should be removed from school libraries. Here’s their full challenge. The parent writes that the book should be considered indecent under Utah’s new book banning law, after seeing the other titles that have been pulled.
“Incest, onanism, bestiality, prostitution, genital mutilation, fellatio, dildos, rape, and even infanticide,” the parent wrote in their request, listing topics they found concerning in the religious text. “You’ll no doubt find that the Bible, under Utah Code Ann. § 76-10-1227, has ‘no serious values for minors’ because it’s pornographic by our new definition.” https://www.sltrib.com/news/education/2023/03/22/utah-parent-says-bible-contains/
