@jlo_geno oops, I was trying to see if there was more text in the poll answers, and I can’t remove or change my answer even though I’m not quite sure what exactly I voted for!

It’s been a bit of time since I’ve done this sort of thing and I was just looking for more information. Sorry to skew the poll!

@c0debabe is there a way to just follow or look at a feed from mastodon.art, the way we can look at a hashtag? I’m following a few people from there, but would like to find more.

@layeredstrange There are also Peertube instances in the Fediverse for those who do not want to give traffic to commercial video hosting sites. peertube.fediverse.observer/

Just a reminder about Mastodon.

Try not to directly upload videos here.
You have to remember that these videos have to be stored on the server that you're hosted on.

This would also eat up on available bandwidth, storage and memory resources of said servers and slow them down. Which would force server hosts to upgrade at a substantial cost.

Suggested idea...

Upload to YouTube, Vimeo or other video streaming services and share the link to the video here instead.

Happy !!

Ari let me know i need to turn on the heat by stealing my covers this morning. Didn’t get a new pic of that, so here’s an old one:

Ok, taking some advice and toning down the reblogging.

@fu @BlueBassist

I have some experience with open source software. This could be my first experience of this kind, although having first learned the ways of the internet on BBS’s, dial in MUDs, Usenet and IRC I’m not sure.

I haven’t really liked modern social media much, so we will see if I can find a place here.

@trinsec makes sense. Maybe I’ll tone it down.

Right now I appreciate the boosts other people are doing because it is helping me find interesting people to follow. But I guess hashtags would be just as good.

Maybe I’ll chill for a bit, see where it goes now.

I've been using the official Mastodon app just to get started, but am finding that it's a bit clunky. I suspect it will get some development attention with the #twittermigration, but in the meantime I found this article helpful, reviewing 8 apps in total (including the official one).

My #introduction!

I am a professor at Arizona State University. I have a lab, and we study the #evolution, structure, and function of #microbes that form beneficial long-term infections in eukaryotic cells. Mostly this means #bacteria that infect sap-feeding #insects, but we also run into #fungi every once in a while. We use #cellbiology, #genomics, and #biochemistry in our work.

I loved learning about new science on the bird app but hated the negativity. I hope this can be different.

In Mac OSX, there's a simple option to just turn everything on your screen to greyscale for a second. Just open the search bar (<Command>+spacebar), go to Accessibility, and tick the 'Use greyscale' box (see image).

In Windows, there is a similar option. Simply hit the <Windows> key, type 'Color filters' (or something similar in your language), tick the 'Grayscale' button, and toggle the filter on and off with ease:

On Linux, to make things greyscale, you only need to install something simple. It only takes a few minutes, and then you can switch between greyscale and the regular display with a simple toggle '<Super>+e'.

@bramvandijk88 The biggest challenge for me on the grayscale is that sometimes I just need around 20 colors to depict genotype x environment correlations (one color per genotype) - and there are simply not enough grayscale and/or visually distinct linetype options available to make a convincing, easy-to-follow figure without color.

As a #colourblind person, I appreciate people checking their figures in greyscale. But it's a lot of work to always convert your figures into greyscale, right? A lesson from digital artists: you don't have to!

There are easier ways for all operating systems! (see replies)

Checking your figures in greyscale may not resolve all visual impairment issues, but it really helps! Plus, it allows YOU to appreciate *contrast*. Use contrast to your advantage!

More #introduction !

My main work is color artist. I work in the franco-belge comics industry and I put colors on black and white pages.
I like working with all these teams of writers and drawers. A lot of projects each year, a lot of things learned and wonderfull drawings to work on !

Here is a page of Ladies With Guns published by Dargaud, drawn by Anlor, writted by Olivier Bocquet and colored by me.
