So this is Midnight's mother, Kristal-Mith. APPARENTLY she won Best-in-Show at the Lizbeff community centre some lifetimes ago. Yeah/nah. As you can see, you can take the cat out of Lizbeff but ...

Scratching posts in front of everything you don’t want scratched is the best solution I’ve found. The more *good* places to scratch, the less likely bad places will be used. You can move the posts slowly out of the way as the cat gets used to scratching the right thing.
Best to prevent scratching by making good options available in the beginning. Once they’ve started scratching somewhere, it can be very hard to stop.

*despite my love of fungi, he was actually given this name at the shelter where I adopted him. Course I kept it.

People use smart phones to settle small disagreements all the time!
You are right, they aren’t useful for discussions of philosophy, just for facts like authors, musicians, etymology or history. These can seem trivial, but when both parties are certain of their information a “neutral” tool can help.
Most recently I had a disagreement about the origin of the word “GOLF”. My smartphone gave an answer, which as I suspected had nothing to do with the gender of the players.

@admitsWrongIfProven
Yes, I think it helps to focus on what you learn when wrong. I’ve also found it more useful professionally to admit I was wrong or don’t know something than to try and insist I am right.
Actually, I’ve never found it useful professionally to insist on being right, although I’ve met people who seem to go pretty far with that attitude. They are exhausting to work with.

@admitsWrongIfProven
I’m glad you like the photos!
I understand feeling negative about things right now.
When I joined mastadon, I thought I’d focus on work and politics, because that’s what I focus on everywhere else.
Then I saw people posting art and poetry and photographs from around the world. Their posts made me happier. I realized I’d rather just share a little of what brings me joy as well.
I’ll still post a little work and politics behind a CW, or boost things that are important.

@admitsWrongIfProven
It can be so hard to admit when I’m wrong!
I think it takes practice. Also sometimes people come to me with “proof” which just doesn’t seem correct.
There’s one good use of a smart phone for you! If it is a trivial disagreement like who wrote a song or book, you can look up the answer on line! 😄

@admitsWrongIfProven
I think I followed you because you made a good comment on one of my photos.

Also I like your name. Seems to me more people need to practice admitting when they are proven wrong.
