White people who are claiming "this is a reach," Asian people, have been violently attacked in Western countries for wearing masks. Western leaders have said that "wearing masks isn't in our culture." A lot of anti-mask sentiment is deeply embedded in white supremacy.

When you’re immunocompromised and have multiple other disabilities AND your spouse is also disabled, protection is critical - especially in areas with little-to-no societal protections (even in hospitals). We minimize our risk because we love each other and want to stay safe.
