Because the universe is expanding, the light from distant galaxies is stretched — or redshifted — into longer, infrared wavelengths. We can figure out galaxies’ distances by measuring how much the signatures of elements in their spectra have shifted due to this effect.

To search for the earliest galaxies, scientists looked for a distinct feature in spectra that required Webb’s unprecedented infrared sensitivity to observe. Up next: Many more distant galaxies are lined up for Webb to investigate!

At Auschwitz we see the end of the process. The Holocaust did not start from gas chambers. It gradually developed from ideas, words, stereotypes & prejudice through legal exclusion, dehumanization & escalating violence.

74 years ago UN accepted the "Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide" which defined genocide. It was drafted by a lawyer of Polish-Jewish descent Rafał Lemkin.

Sinema is still pretending not to be a Republican by becoming an Independent. Sinema is the worst shapeshifting demon ever.

@therobburgessshow She only fooled her constituents, but now I hope a real Dem beats her in the next election.

Auschwitz survivor speaks out against rise in antisemitism. We must learn from history - anti antisemitism is pervasive and on the rise. https://www.cbsnews.com/philadelphia/news/auschwitz-survivor-speaks-out-against-rise-in-antisemitism/

Kyrsten Sinema is who we thought she was— a Republican.

"Sen. Kyrsten Sinema has a lot of words to explain why she’s leaving the Democratic Party and registering as an independent, but there are two real reasons, and they’re each two words long: primary challenge, and attention-seeking."

I joined @QueerTalk to chat about my Broadway musical ‘Allegiance’ soon to be playing in London. It’s a story about love, family, and heroism during a dark chapter of American history.

I’m not surprised that Sen. Kyrsten Sinema is declaring herself an independent. She knows she otherwise would lose the Democratic primary in 2024. And that’s her own fault for selling out.

@therobburgessshow Funny in the end it was easy to quit Twitter, the satisfaction knowing you can do something to show your discontent. Then the surprise to find something way better. I spend a lot less time on Mastodon now than I did on Twitter, but that’s a promise I’d made to myself when I switched, and that’s been the best decision of all!

We've got you covered with everything you need to know about Moore v. Harper, the U.S. Supreme Court's so-called independent state legislature theory case.🧵

The @nytimes in no small part helped to normalize the pandemic--remember #Omicron is milder--while making cases against mitigation as doing more harm than good (causing everything from teen suicides to car crashes).

Now this piece by David Wallace-Wells just says the truth out loud. We're see massive death still and it's not just a "pandemic of the unvaccinated." It's our grandparents who are dying. We are sacrificing our elders for our thirst for normal.

@AdamParkhomenko I'm surprised she didn't just go to the Republicans. She's been a Republican at heart for 4 years now...

I see Kyrsten Sinema is still great at being the fucking worst

Ratufa indica, or the Malabar giant squirrel, the species is one of four relatively hefty rodents in the squirrel family.Beautiful creature!

I said what I said. Even so, it's still alarming to learn that ElMu is so willing to grant 3rd-parties access to private conversations without first-party consent.

Seems like something that is probably against the law in several jurisdictions where the bird site conducts its business.

So Twitter did the bare minimum to prevent the spread of pandemic-related misinformation as the virus was killing thousands of Americans every single week.

And that's a scandal?
