Democrats held the senate because The People understood the existential threat of the Republican Party to US, even as our Media Elite did everything they could to normalize political violence & creeping authoritarianism.
I moved a few things around on my website, as having an Iowa-specific viz isn't functional one full day per week. Iowa reports Tuesday data on Wednesday, but the CDC reports that Tuesday data on Thursday for Iowa. It's... irksome. I still have the Iowa table on that page.
I took down the long-term care facility data with regard to vaccinations, as those data are also represented in the nationwide vaccination viz. The LTC vaccination viz was a beast that took forever to load and sometimes would crash when viewed on mobile.
As long as the @CDCgov@twitter.com doesn't screw with our datasets again (excepting hospital census which is expected to shift from HHS to CDC soon), vizzes should be stable for the foreseeable future.

"Anyone infected with COVID is at higher risk for heart issues—including clots, inflammation, and arrhythmias—a risk that persists even in relatively healthy people long after the illness has passed."
@American_Heart@twitter.com, we need public warning on this!

I'm just gonna drop this here. All the "what about the children," "urgency of normal" crowd is conspicuously silent at the moment. One might think the normal they were seeking was for themselves, not our nation's children.

All,
The moment has finally arrived! 🥳
@McCullohMD
@stevendavis , and I have been hard at work for the past week putting together a Mastodon instance so that we can create a backup disability and chronic illness community.
It can be found here:
disabled.social
For now, we have set up a terms of service, privacy policy, rules and best practices.
I have plans to set up a Twitter space to go through each of these with the disability community directly to add/subtract/reword things.

SARS2 mutation speed accelerates.
It accelerated from 25,000 subs/year to 29,000 subs/year in 7.5 months
Accelerated by ~4,000 subs/year in 7.5 months
If acceleration stays constant, we can expect the speed of ~31K subs/year in Jan 2023 & ~33K subs/year in May 2023

Ever hear about “immunity debt”? It’s the idea that children’s hospitals are filling up with RSV patients bc we closed schools and didn’t infect enough kids with COVID to train immune systems.
It spread widely by major media despite lacking evidence.
The latest BS anti-public health narrative to become a moral panic — like the lockdown suicide waves or remote school learning loss. https://www.mcgill.ca/oss/article/covid-19-medical-critical-thinking/claims-immunity-debt-children-owe-us-evidence
Evidence just keeps mounting that we didn’t do nearly enough to stop the spread of COVID, but prominent minimizers have staked their reputations — and built huge audiences — on denial. That’s why their opposition to public health measures is so entrenched. They’ll never admit it.
There’s also a political component to denial. Operatives who work for right-wing, capital-aligned organizations — or get funding from them — will never accept the body of evidence out of fear of a return of "big govt"
At the end of the day, COVID minimization has killed and disabled hundreds of thousands of people — people of all ages. It has orphaned kids. It continues to encourage working people to accept a brutal normal that is more dangerous than the one that existed in 2019. It’s absolutely vile and we should remember. Never let the minimizers forget the harm they've caused.
Accountability is the only way to avoid the same deadly errors in the future.
“All students at the University of Barcelona will have to take a mandatory course on the climate crisis after the establishment agreed to meet the demands of activists conducting a sit-in occupation.” 👏👏👏
@walkerbragman Agree, but unfortunately also many of the voices I’ve listened to the most on #Covid and #LongCovid (Michael Osterholm, Abraar Karan, Putrino Lab, Ziyad Al-Aly, aerosol folks besides @kprather88) apparently have not made the migration, either. Wondering how much more they need to see to decide that having a Plan B is a good idea.
