Mapping the planet’s critical natural assets
In a new paper https://www.nature.com/articles/s41559-022-01934-5 by Rebecca Chaplin-Kramer et al in @NatureEcoEvo show that prioritizing critical natural assets (natural and semi-natural terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems required to maintain 12 of nature’s contributions to people) could simultaneously advance development, climate and conservation goals. https://twitter.com/beckyck

Once upon a time, ~36,000 years ago, unicorns were real.
The “Siberian unicorn” (scientific name: Elasmotherium sibericum) weighed >4 tons, had a long horn ~3 feet on its nose & roamed Eurasia’s grasslands at the same time as modern humans.

In 2022, we are still fighting for our right to exist in public life. And please @nytimes , I know plenty of people of faith who don't trade in discrimination in the name of God.
Act up. Fight back. Fight trans/homophobia. Yes, still. Now.

1945
By some strange accident, I haven't seen any features released in the year 1945.
Incidentally, this is the last time we'll have a year I've seen either no movies or just one movie. There's a handful more where it's only 2 or 3, but by the mid 50s my pick will be from a considerably wider selection.
Now I'm just excited that I have so many movies from 1949 or earlier to watch.
The SCOTUS will hear oral arguments in Moore v. Harper on 12/7.
This is a case out of North Carolina where state legislators are arguing there should be no constraints on the laws they pass about how federal elections are conducted and maps are drawn.
If it succeeds, it would allow state legislatures to eliminate checks and balances, manipulate our elections, and undermine our vote.
Please join me in Raleigh on 12/6 for a rally in opposition to Moore. #MooreVHarper
So, there was no need to replace the bandage at this time. And we were able to figure it out thanks to a physical exam finding consistent with adequate peripheral perfusion all the way to the very tip of her injured finger. 🥳

Bear with me: maybe COVID hospitalizations should be a bigger story than the hyped-up coverage of flu hospitalizations. Especially when COVID admissions are outpacing flu admissions 1.5 to 1, and this COVID surge is just getting started
So, if you ignore the comical and distracting stories coming out of Musk, Taibbi and the leaked Twitter e-mails, there's yet another lesson to be learned. You cannot trust entities to guard your privacy. A butt hurt CEO just leaked a number of private communications that they bought for ego and hype purposes. Think Musk will respect the privacy of your DMs? #encrypt!
Do you want to know how serious the Supreme Court taking away our democracy via Moore v. Harper is?
look at all the right wing replies trolling. Telling you America isn’t a democracy
A representative democracy and a constitutional republic *are* each a democracy – this is their go-to bad faith argument when they are trying to strip us of our rights.
@kyleejohnson the media has been reposting what Elon says, without fact checking for decades… But now that public opinion has turned, they really need to stop being an arm of his PR department
Read my latest: "The Breaking Of The Followship"
With Twitter seemingly coming apart, everyone’s headed to the lifeboats.
For me, this newsletter has become that.
A bit about where it’s been; a bit of what’s to come.
Hopefully we’re just getting warmed up.
