> All sources are biased, basically. My blog, too, I guess.

Which is in the end alright too. Because our biases also are part of who we are. As far as we let the world look through them - from time to time, at least. Otherwise it's a borderline deception.

This is perhaps the most hilarious reaction I ever got :thumbsup_hmn_g1:

Basically: I have no time to read you, but feel a great need to let you know 🙂

Psychology of social networks does not stop to entertain me.

After writing thousands of pages in LaTeX and about the same amount in Word/LO Writer, I think it's not about the time you spent enforcing some (often unreasonable) formatting onto your document. It's more about the level of control you feel to have about it. As an expert TeX user, I feel more in control as it does not do some blackbox magic on me like all the Words and Writers. But overall I spend about the same amount of time fiddling with either 😞 .

Maybe this is one of those problems where we don't have a choice _whether_ we'll meet the enemy, nor how big/ugly the enemy will be. We just have a choice _where_ and _when_ will it happen.

Yes, I get that. The (somewhat tangential) thought, or rather a question which crossed my mind is whether I shall be a curator of my own archive/record. In a way that creates a sanitized view of a person which is less close to who I really am than all that mess which I generate by just being. On the other hand, who will ever care for all that non-curated mess? ...

@hugh

@kensanata @hugh "Data is toxic" - sometimes I think of that, I know you regularly clean up your masto history. You know, without people keeping records in the past (diaries, letters), we would be much poorer as humankind. So I decided to keep my data as much as I can, even though I am not naive enough to think one day a library would want my e-mail archive. Still. In my e-mail archive and the diary is who I am. Maybe one day my grand (grand-grand?) children would like to read some of it? And maybe enjoy it as much as I did enjoyed reading through and learning from some writings of my grand-grand father whom I never met and yet feel a connection to.

@kensanata @hugh See it as a sign of a technical dedication of the other person. They keep their mailbox and remember social connection better then others do.

I keep my e-mail history since 1998. I still get surprised when I get people asking me to resend them again this thing I sent them 6 months ago, because they deleted the e-mail...

This Bishop is in real danger - she can move in any direction.

@jwildeboer Which clearly shows that AfD vote is rooted in 1) fear; and/or 2) disappointment - both deeply negative emotions. People in Sachsen and Thueringen must be somewhat unhappy, I suppose.

## Which German party has the best answers to the challenges of the future? - a reflection on the general elections

So we had general elections in Germany. I would say, not much of a (great) surprise (at least not to me), despite all the chatter in media and public. I checked some basic stats at tagesschau.de/wahl/archiv/2021 and one interesting thing stood out there for me.

The response to the question: _Which party has the best answers to the challenges of the future?_, FDP scored only 9% of positive responses.

This question is actually a hidden test for people's perception of how progressive/conservative a party is (has answers to challenges of the future = is future-oriented vs. does not have answers to challenges of the future = is rather backwards looking/status-quo conserving).

No surprise, the Greens are perceived as very progressive (have answers to questions of the future), followed by Socialists and the Christian Democrats. Also not surprisingly, AfD is perceived as a super-conservative party, which is their whole point. But I would not expect FDP to end almost on par with AfD(!) being perceived as so strongly conservative party. After years of trying to look "hip" and young, they are perhaps loosing their mojo? Despite their current relative success in the general elections. Or is it perhaps so that their electorate are young, hip and affluent conservatives? Which would indicate that there are plenty of such in Germany and thus the country is doing quite well overall.

@ktemkin Hey young lady. Forget about asymmetries. You look fabulous as you are, so no worries. There's only one thing which needs to be just right on any person and it's their smile. And yours is just fine.

@seachaint Well, there are some for real, like this one: klein-vision.com/ But most of the reservations expressed still apply.
