“Five of the state’s nine full-time maternal-fetal medicine specialists have left or will leave their jobs by the end of this year, according to doctors at St Luke’s medical center.”

Sad to see this happening in all GOP-controlled states, but especially sad for me to see it in Idaho, just as Boise was becoming a place where progressives could feel at home.

"I never thought wearing an N95 mask would qualify as a form of civil disobedience, but that’s where we’re heading, isn’t it?

A properly fitting N95 mask represents a truth that fascists hate being reminded of: Nobody ever achieves anything by themselves. Sometimes, the best way to protect yourself also means protecting others. A mask reminds them that their rugged individualism isn’t real."

If you are attending large events and you aren't emailing to ask them to include cleaning the air in their plans (eg setting up some filter fans/air purifiers in the space or otherwise ensuring high quality ventilation), you are forcing your disabled colleagues to be the only people speaking up for this and spoiler alert, it's awful. I don't want words about caring, I want the basic actions that make us all safer.

I never know what to in this thing. Maybe because I don't really know who I am or maybe I'm a mixture of many things.

DeSantis revived a state guard, and recruits are quitting over what they’re seeing inside. And:

DeSantis and Florida republicans have wiped hundreds of thousands of vote by mail registrations from the system—mostly democrats

That means people will not be getting the ballots they requested for the upcoming election if they don’t find if it’s them and re-register

When there are no consequences for fascists?

They keep taking rights until they win.

"You see, right wingers don’t merely want their own platforms. If they did, they would all congregate on Truth Social or Parler. What they want is to dominate all platforms, which is why the Plaintiffs in Biden v. Missouri want to remove any possibility of legitimate criticism from official sources."

'Amid record-shattering warmth this February, BP scaled back an earlier goal of lowering its emissions by 35% by 2030, saying it will aim for a 20 to 30% cut instead. ExxonMobil quietly withdrew funding for a heavily publicized effort to use algae to create low-carbon fuel. And Shell announced that it would not increase its investments in renewable energy this year, despite earlier promises to dramatically slash its emissions.'

I'm starting an expedition thread on our MUDBENCS project, an oceanographic expedition to collect marine and fluvial mud, suspended sediment, and water from the Amazon River and coastal areas of Brazil, French Guiana, Suriname, and Guyana. I will add to this thread from time to time, so please #boost it freely if you think others would be interested in participating virtually in an oceanographic expedition.

Tonight, the ship R/V F. G. Walton Smith pushed off the dock in Miami heading to St. Thomas, to Trinidad, and the to Cayenne. The scientific party was not on board. Most will join it in about 13 days in Cayenne. I will lead a small party of us to transport frozen Amazon samples over land from Macapá, Brazil, through the savannas and rain forest of the Amazon basin to Cayenne, French Guiana. We will board the ship to begin our work on June 3.

This one's heartfelt. My new op-ed out today. Imagining a recovery in Vermont that would design for the future that’s coming, not the past we once knew and expand the idea of recovery to include nature and community, as well as bridges and roads themessenger.com/opinion/disas #multisolving #VTflood23 #ClimateCrisis

From 1940s-1980, the wealthiest paid 70-94% marginal tax rates. Zero of them went broke from taxation. Zero of them left the USA. All remained exceedingly wealthy, manufacturing boomed, AND we had the strongest middle class growth in US History.

Let's do that again. #TaxTheRich

Take note: When people downplay or ignore the role of structural racism in health disparties, it leaves space for bad actors like RFK to spread harmful and bigoted conspiracy theories.

@ben My impression is that Renewal by Anderson is mostly salespeople. Who the actual contractors that do the work are is key. We were able to just replace the glass panes with a local company (but our issue was failed double glass seal). But for heat issues, why start with the actual windows? What do you have for attic insulation and ventilation? The quick right now solution for windows would be heavy blackout drapes.
