One big part of self care that I discovered this year when I broke my leg is asking for the help that you need. Asking for help can be really hard. But, NOT asking for help is failing to take care of yourself.
Help might mean help getting around, or help managing your emotions, or help figuring out what kind of help you need.

Bellwether. That's how it's spelled. Not bellweather or belle-weather. Why?
It's a metaphor. A "wether" is a neutered male sheep. Sheep follow a leader. Shepherds would put a bell on a wether, a leader, and the flock of ewes and lambs would follow him. So when the shepherds would hear the wether's bell, they'd know the flock was nearby. (Real shepherds, please chime in!)
Hence the metaphor -- a bellwether is an early sign of something.

Every time a #ems call comes in you get a chance to see something new. Tonight’s call was to help someone’s family get a generator up and running (they had lost power and needed to keep some medical equipment running).
Usually my patients don’t have a carburetor, but I was happy to head out and help them out. Generator running, equipment up and running, all is well!

Happy Christmas Eve Eve!
Stepping on my soapbox for one moment...
Keep in mind those who are immunocompromised. COVID is not over for them. Flu and strep, and RSV are even more dangerous. If they require a little extra care, be kind.
I cannot visit family. My immune system is temporarily out of whack. They refuse to get COVID tests, so - spending this one alone. I just cannot risk it. Next year, I'll be fine, but some will not. Be kind. Make adjustments for those you love.
