Hey #ebook #readers

If given the choice, would you prefer to purchase your ebook directly from the author as an #epub format or would you rather buy your ebook from a digital retailer?

Can we get this pool #BOOSTED? It may make a difference on my future...😉

@bookstodon

Do any infosec peeps here have experience and tips on running/hosting smoothly a #CTF event? Maybe technical tips but also all the little things which improve the overall participant experience. I'll be hosting one (physical, not online) goodies and food are mostly sorted but I have question about having music while the event is running because I'm not sure if it's a good idea. Also I've got question about providing power to 60+ participants safely. I've been to LAN parties younger but never though much about those.

If there are good ressources out here (feedback from organisers, blog post) I'm all ears!

Tagging @wrongbaud and @cybergibbons for good measure

Some engineer did a fantastic job of saving probably their entire team's jobs by pulling that whopper of a lie out of their ass

Hi 👋 I am a marine biogeoscientist and human rights law specialist based in London. I maintain a blog called Seabed Habitats for over ten years and love to share latest developments in #marinescience #marineecology #marinebiology #marinegeology

Did my PhD in Galway Ireland on #maerl sediment dynamics and numerical modelling of sediment transport. Ended up making a documentary on maerl and hosting Seabed Habitats Seminar Series on #seabedhabitats blog. I am pleasantly happy to leave Twitter!

A man named Bruno Schröder, was a mining engineer for most of his life. When passed away in his 80s in June 2022, he had around 60,000 or so books spread out on the 4 floors of his house in Mettingen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The books likely weigh about the same as 15 modern cars. 📚

If you've been waiting for full-text #search on #Mastodon, please go to #TootFinder and sign in. The more the merrier.
https://www.tootfinder.ch/

It's opt-in, not opt-out. It respects Mastodon culture and doesn't index accounts that don't sign in.

That means the index might be small if we don't spread the word.

This WSJ article, which should be a paywall-free "gift link", includes a quiz/checklist which tries to determine where you might like to live if you didn't have to be be near your work.
I answered the questions honestly, based on the priorities @doombunny and I had when we first talked about moving out of California, and unsurprisingly #Spokane was on the list (as was Bend, OR and Las Cruces, NM).
Where would you move if you could #RemoteWork? https://www.wsj.com/articles/remote-workers-great-place-to-live-11675881131?st=hwfek99cc1ajd1t&reflink=share_mobilewebshare

If you ever want to get beaten up by a bunch of graphic designers, try removing the serifs from Times New Roman and adding them to Comic Sans.

GMC Hummer EV review: bummer EV - https://www.theverge.com/23591501/gmc-hummer-ev-review-photos-specs-price

The headline was "Should professors eliminate deadlines?" and is now "‘Procrastination-Friendly’ Academe Needs More Deadlines" which is a bit less click-baity, I guess. We're really grappling in the teaching-methods/course-design sphere with the disconnect between traditional teaching practices and the practices of actual human beings, aren't we? Interesting read, but a more nuanced starting point, please.

Using the barrel of a mechanical pencil to straighten out PGA CPU pins is a brilliant trick. I’ve used the edge of a credit card before but this is way easier!
