Can we make the fediverse the welcoming-est place in social media?

We’re a soft-launching a new welcoming committee. All you have to do is reply to introduction posts to say hello and offer help.

We hope you’ll follow @welcoming and mention to the group how many people you welcomed, so we all know that we’re working as a team.

You can point people to SpreadMastodon.org, discover.fedified.com, or any other resources you like!

A TX man w/AR-15 killed 5 people "execution style." Two female victims were killed lying on top of 2 surviving kids & 3 surviving kids were covered in blood. All b/c they asked him to stop shooting while their baby slept.

This GOP "well regulated militia," has this month alone killed people for:
•Sitting in the wrong car
•Knocking on wrong door
•Turning into wrong driveway
•Attending the wrong birthday party
•Basketball rolls into the wrong lawn
•Asking the wrong neighbor to let your baby sleep

DOS detectives, help! This screenshot brought up lost-yet-vivid childhood memories, and of course I went looking... only to find this "The Haunted Manor" appears nowhere on archive.org, doesn't come up on Google, doesn't seem to exist on MobyGames, and has no hits on YouTube. I can't find any evidence of a DOS developer called "Fiendish Software" either.

Curiously enough, I still own the cover disk for this issue of PC Review, but not the 5.25" that would have this game on it. The version I played as a child was just an executable on a generic floppy disk, probably downloaded from a BBS.

I've already gone through a half-dozen Night Owl compilation discs trying to find the game, without luck. Please send help so that I do not have to explore any more of these interminable shareware archives I beg you

Mental illness is nothing to be ashamed of.

Today in therapy there is this little old lady who can't make much progress because she has so much shame about her mental illness.

It's okay to struggle. You're not alone. Don't be ashamed.

Wow. It's been only six months since Elmo took over Twitter? Seems like forever.

Then again, it's been about five months since I gave a $#!+ about posting there. I can honestly say I'm a happier person without it. Thanks to everyone here who's made it easy.

I appreciate that everyone is posting about their specialties and such and woo go you!

But I will not be doing that. I come here to enjoy the randomness of things and the community of Mastodon.

Hi, I'm Rob. I like people and banter. I like playing tabletop games and chatting about random things. Almost everything reminds me of a GIF or music lyric. I believe in kindness to all people and subscribe to Wheaton's Law (Don't be a dick.)

Why is Social Security going broke? Income inequality.

Workers are making less than projected.

Meanwhile, the rich are getting richer — so more and more income escapes the cap on the Social Security payroll tax.

It's just one more way the super-rich don't pay their fair share.

The first lesson every single human learns, moments after they enter this world, is how to ask for help. The second is that they'll receive help when they need it. Caring for each other is part of who we are. We aren't born to be independent. We're born to be interdependent.

Can everyone reblog this to help me find more black and/or lgbtq or disabled Mastodon users to be friends with 💛

Read an article today about why Americans think alcohol has health benefits and it's apparently another "well the French are healthy and they do X so it's healthy to do X."

So here's your periodic reminder that France (and Italy, and Sweden, and Japan, and basically every country you've seen in a "this country is so healthy, what's their secret?" headline) has universal health care.

The secret is access to health care. It's always access to health care.

Twitter is dying, but my advocacy work helping trans people raise money via fundraisers depends on my five years of work I've spent writing on Twitter, so I need help.

If you're a trans person who needs help raising money for any reason, reply to this toot with your fundraiser. I'll reach out.

If you're a cis person and you can, please boost this post so your trans followers can see it.

Yay, Ars Technica now has an official Mastodon presence! @arstechnica

@domenick Maybe the small size isn’t the appeal for American farmers, but the small price is.
