Our 10yr old has gotten ***REALLY*** into mechanical watches & clocks to the point he's on the verge of starting a side gig repairing them. He mentions his hobby to everyone, and a lot of folks have a not-quite-working item sitting around. He's fixed a number of them.

He has had a tough time with an civil war era pocket watch, but was finally able to salvage a compatible part from somewhere, and he got it ticking today. He was so proud, and wants to share with everyone.

“When people want to listen to music they go to Spotify. When people want to study sound recordings as they were originally created, they go to libraries like the Internet Archive. Both are needed. There shouldn’t be conflict here.” - @brewsterkahle

MY FELLOW FEDIVERSE GEEKS - PLEASE HELP!

I wish to abandon YouTube because they are absolute fucking dickheads. I currently have 28K subscribers for 141 vids.

My current YT channel is a mix of my original music videos, gear reviews and other bits and bobs.

Which Peertube server would you recommend me to join?

Hey mastodon! I'm Nora and I have a jewelry store. I specialize in fused glass and have a huge variety of interesting pieces, this is just a sampling of them. https://www.nora.jewelry/

Boosts appreciated, I quit twitter and have been struggling with reach as a result.

Good news: Chevy Bolt EV and EUV production will continue longer than expected https://electrek.co/2023/08/14/chevy-bolt-ev-euv-production-continue-longer/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=mastodon

This is just a small sampling of what I've been up to — and now I'm looking for what's next for me!

I'm open to work in dev advocacy, devrel, technical community, or education programs.

I just discovered a new and wonderful thing about being able to edit your posts here: When you ask a question, you can update the post once you get the answer (since lots of people won't see your reply or follow-up post with the answer).

If you see this toot (yeah this one right here), can you boost it for me? It will help my new server federate with the wider Mastodon network. 🚀 🙏

Thanks to anyone who can do this. It is really appreciated! This server is small but will be hosting several #peace #SocialJustice and #Humanistic groups, so it is for a good cause.

Why doomscroll when you could read "New responsibilities" by Bastien Nocera? https://www.hadess.net/2023/08/new-responsibilities.html 🧠

I learned today via FDA why and when the new Covid boosters will be ready
—The reason for the delay is that the Covid Public Health Emergency ended May 11, 2023, so it requires a Product Licensing Application (PLA) instead of an EUA
—Now projected to be available ~9/15

my family was put under evac notice a few hours ago in the northwest territories of #canada

... it is perfectly accurate. this is what it looks like in the southern #NWT right now.

Since November last year, we've been on team EV. I used to spend around 200€/month on gas (95E). A road trip to Helsinki (600km or so) would cost 180€. It now costs 14€ and added no extra travel time (we eat while the car is charging, one 40 minute stop).

We charge at home, off-peak hours while we sleep. Once we place solar and home energy storage, we go completely green.
