Trains once staffed with five workers are now staffed by two. Conductors and engineers can be on call for 14 consecutive days and do not receive a single sick day. Once again, workers deemed essential are treated like anything but by uber-profitable corporations—and now Congress.

First day back post surgery.

My company let me and my team go. They completely abandoned Security Engineering

To make it even worse I just got multiple folks reaching out to let me know that my now former boss just threw my team and I under the bus. Said we didn't do anything of value and that letting us go was easy.

Given we're both DEFCON goons and he was someone I considered to be a friend, that really twists the knife. I just hope he'll be man enough to talk to me about what he did, but his actions so far indicate otherwise

So I'm looking for work and I've got several engineers looking with me. I'd love to get us hired as a package deal, but right now we'll take what we can get.

git commit -m "my pr reviewers HATE this one weird trick"

I hold the philosophical position that if two things are indistinguishable, their difference is irrelevant.

"What if we live in a simulation?" -- irrelevant
"What if you couldn't tell the difference between taking to a computer and a real person?" -- irrelevant

But more precisely, it's begging the question to say "imagine something was indistinguishable, now how would you treat it differently???"

Pong is 50 years old today.

Little known fact: Pong has no code. Pong doesn't even have a microprocessor. Al Alcorn hardwired the game with transistor-to-transistor logic. (See Henry Lowood: ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/5)

Since Mastodon saw its initial popularity circa 2017, I've noticed that most users and those reporting on it either don't think about the Fediverse as anything more than Mastodon, or treat its history as beginning with Eugen Rochko and the beginning of Mastodon. In fact, Mastodon is the latest in a long line of federated social networks, going at least back to Identi.ca, and though I wasn't around for all of it,I find this history pretty interesting. Tonight I've asked Stable Diffusion to generate 250 different pages from the 1987 Radio Shack catalog.

For those in the United States:

988 is a new phone number that recently went live to help people get help in a mental health crisis. Similar to 911, this line is dedicated for anyone in need of mental health assistance of any kind. It's 988.

Please boost to spread the news. Save someone's life.

They should give Donald Trump’s tax returns to Justice Alito so everyone will know what’s in them.

A gentle reminder to be extra kind to service industry folks for the rest of the year.

Stress and tempers run high during the holidays and it’s not easy to face a stream of it all day long ✌🏼✌🏽✌🏾

Hello people of the Fediverse! Some of you may have heard that a new Mastodon client, Ivory,  is in development for iOS (and Mac!). This is true! Tapbots is going all in on Mastodon and we hope this place continues to grow and thrive. Tweetbot will continue to be developed alongside Ivory as a lot of code is shared. A new Mac version of Tweetbot and Ivory are also currently in development and we are working hard on getting those towards a public beta state.

We don't have to chose between a functioning railroad network & paid sick leave for workers

Rail companies earn billions in profits and can easily afford paid sick leave

Congress can avert a strike by imposing an agreement that includes paid sick leave

Question for the Java folk out there.

Do you work on any codebases that use JUnit 4?

If you click option 3, please respond with a bit of context.

Boosts appreciated.

Twitter was a nice website but it's dead now. Don't be fooled by the corpse twitching. Luckily, we can make more websites, and we will.

Unfortunately I have to stop actively working on #Metatext for a while due to health issues. I really wish I could implement Mastodon 4 features and squash every bug, but it's not possible for me to do so right now.

I know the app has become important to a lot people, so I'm open to a new maintainer who can carry on its values of privacy and accessibility taking it over if there's interest and a fit. Email info@metabolist.org if you (or your organization) are interested
