My name is John Butler.
I'm Maths/Stats Lecturer and Neuroscience researcher in the School of Mathematics and Statistics in TU Dublin since 2015.

My research uses computational neuroscience methods to investigate multisensory processing. My favourite sensory system is the vestibular system it is just great.

I am a member of @neuromatch I’ve contributed materials to the summer schools. I also help organise the Conference and I’m particularly proud of the introduction of Neuromatch for Kids which shows how maths and neuroscience work together.

I really enjoy teaching, I've taught mathematics, statistics and computational neuro to all levels from graduate, down to primary. Here are two modules:

@EggKnees @bibliotecaria In 1948, a fan wrote into Astounding Science Fiction magazine with reviews of the stories from the November, 1949 issue, more than a year in the future.

The editor ran with it, and solicited stories with those titles from the listed authors, then published them in that issue.

Clearly, someone needs to do this with a ChatGPT reference list.

If you’re at the right place at the right time, with the right equipment, this is possible.

Last night, with guidance from https://transit-finder.com/, I positioned myself along the narrow line where the International #SpaceStation would pass between me and the nearly full moon.

I used a Fujifilm X-T4 shooting 4K video through a Celestron 8” SCT to capture the pass. Then, back at the computer this morning, put together these views with PIPP, Registax, and GIMP.

Quite pleased. My best yet.

@arclight @bitsavers I'd love to see a book about how MBA ideology took HP from a world-leading engineering firm to little more than a overpriced printer-ink scam.

I need to make a list of Twitter bots that haven't shown up here, and contact their operators. I'm willing to do the work of creating mirror accounts (probably on botsin.space) with permission.
