This morning I was suddenly let go from my job of 2+ years in Incident Management and #SRE.

I was a critical member of the Infra/SRE team, I completely rebuilt the entire observability stack, started and ran a socio-technical program of continuous learning, and rebuilt the On-Call program. Yep they're letting me go. What can I say.

They ran out of seed money.

Happy 97th birthday on January 17 to my wonderful Dad, Newton Minow. He was FCC Chair from 61-63, where he called on broadcasters to do better, inspiring Sherwood Schwartz to name the sinking ship on Gilligan's Island after him as an insult (they later had a very cordial exchange of letters). He co-created PBS and the Presidential Debates, got the original funding for Sesame Street, hired Barack Obama as a summer intern and assigned Michelle Robinson to be his supervisor. He and Mom ran into them at "Do the Right Thing" on their first date. He's the world's best dad and Grandpa and we are so lucky.

I made this for a discussion about students using ChatGPT to snow teachers who are assigned way too many students in the first place to know if they're actually learning or not. Feels like it will be relevant for many things forever.

Since on Mastodon there's a higher chance of non-followers seeing this, I might as well do an #introduction :)
