#2751 March Madness

My bracket has 76 trombones led by John Philip Sousa facing off against thousands of emperor penguins led by Morgan Freeman.

Seems the racist, bigoted governor of Tennessee appears to have not kept up with his website payments. Oops! 🤣

Yours truly is looking for an #InfoSec / #Cybersecurity job in a safer state than Florida. I do pretty much all things security... like consulting, malware analysis, auditing, compliance, blue team, red team, purple team, SecDev, SecOps, SecDevOps, etc.

My kids are all grown now, so I am more than willing to travel / relocate. If you have any leads or tips on some good companies, please let me know.

Replying to all the random individuals that seem to think that I’m “endorsing” one of the Fediverse products over any other, and seem to be making a big deal over #akkoma vs #mastodon etc.

That’s not the case. I’m actually a horrible MIS person, and I would never want to maintain my own server. I’m a programmer for chrissake!

The same way you should fear me if I hold a soldering iron, you should be very very nervous if I were to do any server management.

So all credit (or blame) for the choice of Fediverse platform goes to @monsieuricon, who maintains kernel.org and just made it really easy for me to try this out.

… and on a similar note: not only am I not much of a MIS person, I’m also not much of a social networking person.

I foresee a lot of disappointment in the future of any followers of this account 🔮.

As many of you likely know, I’m immune compromised and chronically ill. If you’ve followed me on social media for a while you may not even recognize me anymore. I sure don’t recognize myself some days.

I got #Covid in May of 2022 and I have never recovered. I’m now an ambulatory wheelchair user and struggle daily. I can’t work. My quality of life is significantly compromised.

Many of us never recovered. We exist.

Please, wear a mask and stay home if you’re sick.

Just watched "A Disturbance in the Force", a documentary about the 1978 #starwars Holiday Special in it's thrid screening at #sxsw2023. It's quite well done and really paints all the people involved in a good light, even when their final output was very flawed. Worth watching when it gets released! holidayspecialdoc.com/

✨Available for hire!

Until this year, the University of Kentucky’s William S. Webb Museum of Anthropology had never returned any of the more than 4,500 Native American human remains in its collections.

That is about to change.

Weeks after ProPublica published the “Repatriation Project,” the university told federal officials that 138 ancestral remains in its collection could be repatriated to three tribes. @ProPublica

Stop thinking of Twitter, TikTok, IG, (et al) as social media sites.

They are **Content Refineries.**

Like processed food manufacturers they take user content & extract the most addicting/engaging content. Brains eat it up but in an unhealthy “devour the whole bag of chips” way.

They make hyper-processed social media junk food.

Mastodon is more like a potluck. We're all bringing dishes. It's a mess. Kids are running all over. But we are, at least, real people sharing real things.

As a Y2K veteran, getting serious old-programmer vibes filling out online forms with only two digits for the years.

If you have a hard time imagining Twitter collapsing or Facebook becoming irrelevant, remember that there was a time that Yahoo! was synonymous with The Internet and it seemed like nothing could stop it from world domination. It had purchased Flickr which was an absolute thousand-pound-giant-gorilla destination that OWNED online images. It had all the cards to play to the end.

These things never last. Money isn't smart and it always destroys the thing if left to its own devices.

I was woken up today by a phone call letting me know that due purely to budgeting changes I’ve been let go from my full-time contracting position I just started in January after being laid off in September.

I am a former #Apple #engineer with 15 years of experience making apps for #iOS and #macOS. I also have experience with #Ruby. Available immediately for full time or contract work.

Please boost. #Swift #RubyOnRails
