Denver last year offered subsidies for buying electric bikes
Their first 600 were snapped up in 10 minutes. Demand was *huge*
Denver ended up issuing over 4,700 (about 2,300 of which went to low-income residents)
Research shows it reduced car-miles driven in the city by 100K a week
My takeaway?
We should have ebike subsidies *everywhere*, and *now*. Cheaper than electric car subsidies, and arguably even more catalytic

Happy anniversary to all the couples that married the day it became legal! We went to the registrars expecting protests that were not there. Then we took a number and waited for hours with all kind of couples, every shape, color, and credit score. People dressed to the 9s and others of us there in shorts. There was a sense of urgency. We must get this done now, b4 they can take it away. And we all cheered each couple that came out until we were the ones being cheered. That was a lovely day!

Pls BOOST for maximum reach to #Fediverse 🙏🏼
Well friends, I am currently looking for work. I can do manager-y things pretty darn well, but I miss code. Especially low level code... That being said, my "general" background is in dev'ing the ops, release engineering, and managering.
I also like mainframes and other things that most people think are weird... Boosts and any opportunities are appreciated! If any opps don't fit me, I have a network of others and I'll pass it on ❤️

Okay, Mastodon friends, I rarely ask for amplification about my day job, but I personally pushed for my employer to make a big investment in enabling the fediverse, and I'd love for everyone to show that the support is appreciated. On June 28, you can join us for a (FREE!) hands-on conversation about how the Fastly team worked to support @Mastodon while the service was under a *massive* DDOS attack. Everyone who cares about scaling the fediverse should join: https://learn.fastly.com/security-mitigating-ddos-and-traffic-surges-with-mastodon @devs
I have this cat laying with me. He doesn’t care about my problems at work. He doesn’t care about Meta and the fediverse. He doesn’t care that Fedia.io’s database is a
He, for some reason, just wants to lay right here. Purring softly. Twitching now and then as he dreams. Apparently feeling safe.
He’s 17. I give him insulin injections twice a day and he has a shaved spot on his back with a glucose meter glued to his skin. Yet he still trusts me.
When I adopted him 17 years ago, he was a wreck. He peed on my couches, pooped on my bed. But he grew out of that.
He and I play games, even still today. i will act scared to see him and back away, and he will start chasing me.
He knows how to ask me for what he wants. I feel like I understand him sometimes.
I’m really am super lucky he put on a show when I was looking for a rescue to adopt all those years ago. He’s been an awesome cat.

I need more stuff to read in my feed here. Any suggestions for who to follow about #seabikes and transit stuff?
These are from a group called Sharing Alaska. So much cuteness in these pictures of various wildlife babies, I don't have words to describe the adorableness overload! Enjoy! 💗

So, my team was laid off last Apr. Having taken time to recharge, I'm starting to look again.
I'm passionate about teaching, learning, removing friction, and building patterns that cut with the grain of the problem at hand. You've probably used software I wrote at npm or on the node project! (Now there's a scary thought.)
I'm especially interested in working on high-trust teams using Rust, JS, IaC tools, and/or WASM.
RTs appreciated! My CV: https://www.neversaw.us/meta/resume.pdf

They can monitor the Antarctic year round and sail straight into hurricanes.
Sadly I’m being laid off from my current position. I really love higher ed. If anyone knows of any openings in marketing or comms within their university that the director is happy to be remote I would really appreciate hearing about them 🙏🏽☺️ In the meantime, thank you so much to everyone who has spent time sharing their insights and wisdom with me, particularly @mzyw @mebejer @davidseidl who have been so generous in replies and conversations with me.
