Feel like I’m the last generation of people who say out loud “this set of forms and information is so important I need to ponder it on a desktop monitor instead of this tiny toy phone screen”

I do like it here on Mastodon, but the huge influx of people from Twitter means there are far fewer image descriptions than from even a couple of weeks ago. I’d love to tell every one of them about this, but quite frankly there are so many I don’t have the patience. I’d dearly love it if apps could block posts unless an image description was added to every photo, but I suppose that’s too much to hope for. I’m feeling really excluded from so many conversations. It’s getting as bad as Twitter.

@joinmastodon@twitter.com 2. The primary gripe with Mastodon is that it is confusing.

But it really isn't.

It's a decentralized system, like email.

So you pick a server, just like you pick Gmail or Yahoo

But then you can communicate with anyone

You just need their address and you are good to go

Hilarious protip for dealing with request by email from unethical boss to do something unethical: forward it to security as a suspected phishing attempt.

It’s #FollowFriday so I hope folks utilize the hashtag to find my account here!
Give me a boost! Maybe if I can show some of the big accounts on Twitter that it’s possible to grow sizably and quickly here, too, they’ll migrate over!

If Mariah Carey sees her shadow tomorrow that means 6 more weeks of Christmas music.

Over on Twitter it’s like the Penguin is in charge of Gotham.

I found https://movetodon.org/ today and it’s the best tool I’ve encountered yet for quickly rebuilding your Twitter following list on Mastodon, without manual imports or the like. (Thanks much @Tibor!)

We created the account at Mastodon only a week ago and this community here grown to over 32,000.

Thank you for welcoming us here, thank you for all boosts, comments, advice, support and your engagement.

We are still learning and try to find our specific language on this platform. Your feedback is much appreciated.

And just to add on to this: I think what's happening at Twitter is such an eye opening thing. To see how fragile and kind of bankrupt things have been, and then to look at something like this and realize it actually doesn't have to be that way. If you've ever left a job that makes you miserable and found one you love, that's the feeling of Mastodon to me. Like, "oh wait I didn't have to feel bad for no reason." It's a breakthrough for me about how to think about the next version of the internet.
