Anyway, I’ve been pondering lately: what makes for this difference? And I think I’ve pinpointed it: it’s about each individual masking advocate’s degree of comfort with the idea that the 2019 normal is probably over. If that idea upsets you, a mask is a symbol of a change you’re still not feeling okay with. If you’re sanguine about that idea, though, a mask is a tool that makes it possible for you to do most of the things you did back in 2019 now, but WITHOUT contracting/spreading COVID. /4
