Protecting children from sexual abuse is a cause that everyone can unite behind. Often, however, the measures we take to combat child sexual abuse (CSA) are less effective than they should be, because they are driven by emotion rather than evidence. In striving to protect children from abuse, we may end up harming them and others.
Prostasia Foundation addresses this problem by…

- helping to fund sound scientific research on CSA prevention.
- engaging with diverse stakeholders whose voices are not normally heard.
- addressing the human rights impacts of child protection laws and policies.
- communicating the results of our research and engagement to policymakers, platforms, and the public.

This uniquely balanced, rights-respecting and evidence-based approach to CSA prevention allows us not only to protect children from abuse, but also to reduce the separate harms caused to children and others by our society’s predominantly reactive child protection agenda.

Having been here since 2016, I can tell you there is definitely no such thing as a consensus on usage of content warnings on the fediverse. It's a decentralized network that doesn't belong to any one party, so by definition there is no single culture on it. Different corners have different expectations and customs.

If there are some topics you would rather not see in your timelines anymore, for example a certain Birdsite, you can use Filters! :birdsite:​

HOW TO ❓

1. On desktop, go to Preferences > Filters.

2. Click the “Add new filter" button on the upper right.

3. Then you can add things like “twitter.com/” or “Twitter” or “Birdsite” or something else or all of the above!

4. You can even set an expiration date if you think you'll want to hear about it again later on.

5. You will see these posts hidden as for Content Warnings and you will be able to click on “Show More” to see them OR you can enable “Drop instead of hide” or “Hide completely” in the options to not see anything at all in your timelines.

6. Enjoy! 😌
