This "AI drone kills operator" story is so much like the "Target knew woman was pregnant before she did" story from 2012 it's uncanny.

Tells more about (most) media outlets' competency that about the state of AI.

Nearly 4 out of 5 people in the UK are concerned about their privacy. #BigTech isn’t.

We worked with the UK research firm YouGov to find out what people in the UK think about their online privacy and security. 77% are worried about the privacy of their data online, but 15% do nothing about it. And many believe Big Tech’s model is unethical.

Ben & Jerry’s Ends Paid Advertising on Twitter Due To Proliferation of Hate Speech

"The platform has become a threatening and even dangerous space for people from so many backgrounds, including people who are Black, Brown, trans, gay, women, people with disabilities, Jewish, Muslim and the list goes on. This is unconscionable in addition to being plain bad business."

Deniers, trolls, and conspiracy theorists are threatening and abusing meteorologists and #climate scientists, accusing them of exaggerating, lying about, or even controlling the weather.

This is gonna be fun when solar geoengineering is deployed at scale.

@koyu If you wonder why people from fedi, who are clearly into FOSS, federated servers etc. do not happily adopt matrix... it probably is not only that new messenger apps are hard to establish. But maybe they tried matrix at some point since 2014(?) and were as disappointed as I was when I tried matrix last year in April. It was nowhere near "discord replacement" and a complete waste of time. A LOT of improvement has to happen to make me try again.

@kathhayhoe a good instagram alternative is Pixelfed. It's decentralized like Mastodon.

my son wanted to make his own tomato sauce. So he searches for a recipe on bing and finds a partial one apparently published by the New York times.

but there's a paywall...

so, instead of signing in, or paying for the NYTimes subscription, he simply went into Bing's chat, and asked it for the recipe on that page.

and sure enough, like a good lil bot, it gave him the recipe from that page.

Hello! We have just started using Mastodon. We are a support group for men and non-binary sexual assault survivors.

We currently meet every 2 weeks online, however we are planning on re-starting in-person support group meetings in London if there are enough people interested. We have an online meeting tomorrow, keep an eye on our feed for additional information!

Our group is sex worker, migrant and trans friendly. We aim to make our meetings as accessible as possible for everyone. We focus on men and non-binary people because sexual assault support groups are often targeted towards women. However women who, for whatever reason, can't access other spaces are welcome in our group no questions asked.

The anonymity of our attendees is very important to us and we have more in-depth explanations of our policies being drafted and will be available soon at nyf.org.uk!

I bought a bag of dicks.

It’s to send to myself so the package thief that has been plaguing my building will intercept it and get a bag of dicks.

I also got GPS trackers to put in w/the dicks so I can figure out which apartment they’re going to and leave notes all over the building telling everyone which aptmt is the thieves

Follow Climate Scientists on Mastodon

There was a recent thread about #climate scientists leaving twitter and establishing a presence on Mastodon: mastodon.online/@mastodonmigra

Here is a .csv file of the #ClimateScience accounts mentioned in this thread: drive.google.com/file/d/1uQYbF

You can save this file and import it to Mastodon to follow all of the these accounts.

You can then create a "Climate" list and go through your most recent follows and add them to this list.

This is great for the #Fediverse!

In addition to
#Mastodon, @Flipboard@flipboard.social now supports #Pixelfed and #Bluesky. In doing so, it's one of the first major apps to go beyond Mastodon, and support more of the Fediverse.

First, let's talk about Pixelfed. I've been using this app, both on iOS and Android, for quite some time. It's made great technical strides over the past three months, and I'm amazed at how far it's come.

In fact, one Pixelfed arrives in app stores, I have no doubt this could be a contender as an Instagram challenger.

Now some people might not be so happy about
#Bluesky support, but from the perspective of Flipboard, it's the right decision to make. The more sources that app has, the better for its use case -- which is news.

I meant to talk about this last week, but I had other commitments that needed my attention. Still, it's worth talking about even now.

@dansup @pixelfed that's actually an awesome feature. I've always kinda wished that twitter/instagram/tiktok had a way of showing you when or how long you have followed someone.
