@VickiKyriakakis @syrus @mehdihasan as a newbie here I’ve noticed that too. Twitter used to be a fun communicator but over the last few years became filled with trolls and hate. Here it seems responses are genuine and mostly kind.

@syrus @mehdihasan Engagement levels on Mastadon are also way better than Twitter

Think of people around the world tonight who need Twitter to get their voices heard, to document human rights abuses and injustices, to get attention, expose war crimes, and more.

All of them could be about to be cut off because the world’s richest man wanted to own the libs.

If Twitter users are tweeps, what are Mastodon users? Masties??

@taylorlorenz mastobaters?

@taylorlorenz If you leave a server is that a mastectomy?

Now that we're learning this lesson that centralized silos are brittle and operate in the interest of the owners not the users...

...please note the move toward centralizing podcasts into apps from Amazon/Audible, Spotify, iHeart, YouTube, TikTok etc.

If you like podcasts, use an RSS-based podcast player. Support the open ecosystem. We can only survive if you clearly see the threat and act supportively.

🚨URGENT🚨 - Act now to keep a bad bill off must-pass legislation. #KOSA will make vulnerable kids less safe

Step 1: Use the link below to email your lawmakers.

Step 2: Call 508-761-1268 and tell Sen. Schumer that #KOSA will lead to more surveillance and won't keep kids safe.

QT fightfortheftr: More surveillance won't make kids safe. Tell lawmakers to keep #KOSA out of the lame duck legislation: https://www.fightforthefuture.org/actions/surveillance-doesnt-make-kids-safe

Random Mastodon tip: If you've already written an intro on here, and you don't want to do another one, you can pin your intro post to the top of your timeline. On the other hand, if your intro doesn't cover your whole self and you want to write another one, you can pin up to 5 posts to your timeline, so intro away if it suits you. #FediTip

Circles, Stories and Group Chats

These are the 3 key features I think will bring new users to Pixelfed and encourage continued engagement by embracing IRL conversational and connected experiences via these various mediums.

✨ Show off those iconic photos with everyone

✨ Send those memes to the group chat

✨ Share that moment with followers via your Story

✨ Select a circle of people to share with

#pixelfed #soon

I'm glad the Twitter migration happened first, I have a bit of work to finish so Pixelfed can keep up with the inevitable Instagram migration 😅

Thankfully IG is also owned by a ego driven billionaire who has a talent for driving away users!

General warning to all new users: most mastodon servers are going to perform poorly as they take on a lot of new users. Most servers are small affairs run by a single person. Things are going to be slow, and things are going to break.

Be patient, be respectful, and tip your admin.

It's going to be a rough ride in the fediverse for a while. These are strange times and no one was prepared.

Mastodon is strange and new, and it's uncomfortable here right now. Be patient, it's worth it.

The #edutooter community is starting to grow #TwitterMigration started a little while back but I should think the number joining up today will soar.
Trying to grow my follow list to make my feed more varied. If you’re interested in #education #politics #culture #history #philosophy #art #Eduresearch #phdlife #satire #retrotech #music give me a follow and I’ll follow back #followbackfriday

Many thanks to people like @freemo who manage servers in their own time, using their own resources.

Looks like Instagram has noticed @pixelfed and is trying to limit exposure

Imagine having billions of dollars and a history of doing everything you can to eliminate your competition

Everything that made them successful is now a detriment to the endemic shift in social media

People > Profits, sorry Mark 😎

✨ The future is federated

Imagine being able to follow Twitter accounts from your Instagram account

With Mastodon & Pixelfed you can!
