"What can we - as parents - do to support our children's online experiences, while at the same time ensuring they are doing it in a safe and secure environment?" prostasia.org/?na=v&nk=18015-0

Let me tell you the secret of the "Everything App".

It's real, it's not called X, and it's about 33 years old. It's called a Web Browser.

Despite a decade of walled gardens trying hard to ruin it, you can still do pretty much any task you need on the web.

You can even make websites into apps with Progressive Web Apps (two clicks on WordPress).

The everything app is old, and under siege daily. But it works, it's resilient, and it's magical.

What's really nuts is that if Musk wanted to try expand into payments and banking and such (sure, trust Musk with your finances!), the way to do it would be to bring those under the #Twitter brand -- one of the most recognizable brands in any language on the planet, a brand that created universal terms like "to tweet", a brand name among brand names known to billions of people. And he tosses it away because of his adolescent fixation with X.

"the focus of this newsletter is to highlight the work that Prostasia Foundation is doing to support parents and provide resources for parents to help keep their children safe online." prostasia.org/?na=v&nk=18015-0

"People love a rescue story, which is why Sound of Freedom is doing so well at the box office. But our obsession with stories about good guys with guns rescuing innocent victims has fueled policies that hurt the very people we claim to be trying to help." reason.com/2023/07/22/sex-work
"We know that the criminalization of prostitution has made it more difficult to find victims of trafficking because we know what prohibition does to markets, and it doesn't make them safer."

It's 2:30am on a Saturday night. It's raining. Am I hearing distant fireworks or gunshots 🤔😂

@futurebird disagree. I'm mostly still on twitter because I follow a lot of sex workers and, unfortunately, Twitter is the only social media platform that allows sex workers to *exist* as human beings. (Both for their job, and just as people)

Conspiracy theorists who believe a movie about plastic dolls is trying to turn kids gay or trans are called Barbie-Q.

Are you finding Mastodon to be less vibrant and active?

I’m worried that we are not getting as much engagement on our Ukraine war reporting as we used to.

We are trying to decide which social media platforms to continue posting on, given how much effort it takes to replicate across all of them.

If you want to send a signal to us that we should keep posting here, will you sign up for our newsletter? Counteroffensive.substack.com

I’m only asking Mastodon users today so we can gauge impact.

Tired of seeing misinformation about child protection? Take a stand! Support the only child protection organization that won't pander to the mob or resort to fearmongering. All donations go towards our groundbreaking abuse prevention initiatives.

Reddit to its volunteer moderators: "You work for us. We don't pay you, of course, but we own everything you do. If you challenge our autocratic, greedy policies, we'll kick you out and find other suckers to do all this work for free. And by the way, up yours."

Preventing sexual abuse starts with understanding that ALL children deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. Especially those who have been left behind. theappeal.org/angola-prison-lo

There are so many bad internet bills that it's hard to keep track of them all. @fight has compiled all of them on one page. Take action on all of them here: badinternetbills.com

@freedomofpress the NDAA should be immediately vetoed because it includes the dangerous "Stop CSAM Act" (basically a renamed Earn It Act) that would decimate encryption and privacy

@palafo I see you're obviously a fan of overcontrolling governments 🙄
