t's amazing how willingly people get brainwashed into accepting and using rebranded names.

I refuse to call the Sears Tower "Willis Tower"
I refuse to call Facebook "Meta"
I refuse to call Twitter "X"
I refuse to call Morality in Media "National Center on Sexual Exploitation"

@Hey_Beth @Runyan50 @steventdennis the only instance I'm aware of that doesn't censor and doesn't outright block instances (thus allowing users to be in charge of who they block, which is honestly the way it should be!) is @qoto.org.

@steventdennis That being said. Will Threads ever federate? I mean, Facebook has been promising to make Messenger end-to-end encrypted for literal *years* now and that still hasn't happened. Almost feels like we can't trust Facebook to make good on their word 🤔

@steventdennis I'll happily follow threads users, if facebook is actually telling the truth about federating. But I'm sticking to decentralized social media (aka Mastodon)

The litmus test for every social network in 2023 is: Would a @elonjet account be allowed on it? If not, it can’t be a great social network.

"According to Social Catfish, the amount of money lost by scam victims 20 and younger grew nearly 2500% from 2017 to 2022. During that same period the numbers grew 805% for seniors. That translates into a loss of $210 million for teens."  espnswfl.com/2023/08/17/tech-s

"In recent years, legislation that uses claims of “child protection” to justify infringing on privacy, such as the EARN IT Act and KOSA, has become increasingly common." prostasia.org/blog/bad-survivo

"Supporting sex work isn’t the only opinion that’s controversial for a survivor to hold. In fact, any position other than a blind “for the children” approach can raise eyebrows." prostasia.org/blog/bad-survivo

Just a reminder. Meta is blocking Canadian news organizations on its social media sites right now. Instagram. Facebook.

In the middle of a #climatecrisis. With heat waves, drought conditions and wildfires. Also, with Covid cases rising.

Canadians are unable to share news articles on the most popular social media sites as the company flexes its muscle in a dispute with the government.

"The expectations placed on survivors start the moment their abuse occurs with the idea that they have a responsibility to report what happened." prostasia.org/blog/bad-survivo

One of the ways @pixelfed prevents spam is by checking email address domains against a list of banned domains.

I'm not aware of any other fediverse project that is doing this, or other more advanced methods of spam mitigation.

Maybe we can inspire them, spam is becoming a problem across the fediverse!

"Mullin agreed, saying that part of the reason why KOSA has so much bipartisan support is because both Democrats and Republicans are in favor of censoring opposing viewpoints and are "assuming the censorship will go their way." arstechnica.com/tech-policy/20

"But for some survivors, even the most widely-accessible services remain out of reach. The obstacles they face aren’t the financial or geographic ones you might expect, but rather barriers that are entirely social." prostasia.org/blog/bad-survivo

Gonna start a GoFundMe called "Nothing is currently wrong, but I live in a capitalist society so it is only a matter of time".

"Organizations like StopItNow and Darkness to Light provide helplines, lists of resources, and support referrals to survivors looking for help." prostasia.org/blog/bad-survivo

@koyu agreed. I cannot find an android keyboard that I like better than gboard

"Chiefly, the collective opposition stems from the fact that KOSA could directly cause harm to queer and LGBTQ communities on the internet through censorship and surveillance." avn.com/business/articles/lega
