"I was never taught what warning signs I should be worried about. I had no idea what grooming was or how it worked. I knew I wanted romance and sex, but I didn’t understand how those feelings could be exploited and make me into a target." buff.ly/3fYOkOY

The dems just passed a very similar policy in CA, have co-signed and bragged about writing SESTA/FOSTA, SISEA, EARN IT, KOSA, and a plethora of other “online safety” legislation all deceptively marketed as focused on saving kids while actually selling surveillance and censorship

As of the moment it appears 111 **known** instances have defederated to some degree from Mastodon.social. Most likely unknown instance count is much higher.

People are claiming this is a result on the article I wrote, which largely cited facts with photo evidence and effectively accused Eugen of caving to a Nazi's agenda.

I do **not** want to see anyone defederating from mastodon.social. However, my article presented the facts, made no suggestion to anyone to defederate. If those those facts cause people to get mad with Eugen and defederate, so be it, thats his fault for not being a better person, for not having a discussion about his decisions. I wont take blame simply for exposing truths, the reprocusions are on him not me.

The irony is what is happening to him is the same thing happening to me as explained in that article. The difference is what is happening to me is largely fueled by lies which Ive disproven. Cant say the same about Eugen

Anyway, I do hope all of you will stop defederating and start talking. I'd much rather see people try to talk to Eugen and tell him why he is wrong and get him to be better than anything else. Perhaps stand up to the misinformation you hear as well and do some fact checking so doesnt get wrongly accused of lies while your at it.

Literally everyone talks about adult content as if it is a risk to children, even on sites like OnlyFans with literally no children on them. There is a giant NGO industry out there saying queer content is grooming. Shutting down twitter won’t fix any of this, it’s getting worse.

I want to be clear, the right has talked about us this way forever. I place this failure squarely on the shoulder of democrats like Harris & others in congress happy to use “save the children” repeatedly in policy while ignoring the pleas of our community. KOSA is on them too. twitter.com/axios/status/15972

Not nearly enough people are talking about how the mainstream “moderation debate” and “anti-trafficking” and sex work banking discrimination policy are all entirely mainstream ways trans and queer people are being presented as child traffickers / groomers etc.

.@mmasnick lays down the obvious truth: the “social media is bad for teens (and therefore we should regulate it (and also spy on everyone))” narrative is garbage that ignores how, for the vast majority of kids and teens, social media is a net positive in their lives.

said this before, but the successful campaign over the last 20 years to make "free speech" mean "fascism" rather than "sex work" is a fine example of how abandoning a supposedly disreputable marginal group is a good way to make everyone much less safe.

We urgently need Congress to act to #ReinInBigTech, but #KOSA is not the bill. This legislation would make vulnerable kids less safe and could be weaponized against the #LGBTQ community. Congress should focus on #antitrust and #privacy instead. cnbc.com/2022/11/28/kids-onlin

We need to make it unacceptable for politicians like Senator Blumenthal (D-CT) to continue using kids & grieving parents as pawns to advance legislation that does more harm than good. It's not okay to use harm to kids to justify legislation that does MORE harm to kids. Let's get this right.

Big Tech companies ARE doing real harm to kids. But #KOSA won't make things better. Congress needs to pass real laws like #AICOA, #OAMA, and #ADPPA (which needs to be improved but is a good start) to chip away at Big Tech abuses. And we need robust #FTC enforcement too.
