“This horrific act of hate has no place in America, and stands against our fundamental values: freedom from fear for how we pray, what we believe, and who we are.” apnews.com/article/muslim-boy-

Haven’t posted in a while. It’s been typical chaotic life as usual over here…just keeping up with everything. Definitely hard into #toddlerlife these days. Running, yelling, getting into literally everything, it’s been grand. Oh #parenthood, what joy are thee!

Working on lots of new stuff for @ProstasiaInc. I love my work with this org, it is so #meaningful and makes me feel like I’m actually doing something to #makeadifference.

What about you? What do you do that gives you meaning?

"Rather than needing to reconcile the two, our sex-positive approach is what empowers us to set aside assumptions and focus on the facts of what it takes to keep kids safe." prostasia.org/newsletter/?emai

"In a sex-negative society, children are sheltered from all mentions of sex, leaving them unprepared to recognize and report an abusive situation, should they encounter one. Sex positivity recognizes that information about sex is not inherently dangerous..."

"The pretext of online safety, abuse reduction, or any of the other concerns raised by policymakers simply cannot justify weakening encryption through the policy proposals that have begun to crop up in Five Eyes nations." techpolicy.press/five-eyes-cam

"There is no dispute that more must be done to keep children safe online. But mass surveillance is not, and will never be, a viable solution, and it’s time for the European Union and other governments to drop the pretense that it ever will be." jere.my/why-the-eu-will-lose-i

Conservatives claim book bans are not targeted at LGBTQ expression. So why was one library using a search for the word "gay" to identify books containing "inappropriate" content?

Enabling a fediverse connection on your WordPress blog allows for an interesting short-ish form of writing:
- Space for your own thoughts and arguments, moving beyond just a hot take
- Keeping it slightly limited so it fits well within the structure of microblogging

"Hindering encryption is bad for kids, reporters, and the public. Quite simply, without the confidentiality that end-to-end encryption provides, the next whistleblower with Panama Papers-level information probably won’t be 'happy to share.'" freedom.press/news/bills-threa

"And the truth is, a few extra security measures would not hurt the many parents who homeschool their children responsibly, but they'd definitely safeguard against those who use 'personal liberty' as an excuse to neglect or harm their kids." youtube.com/watch?v=lzsZP9o7Sl

“There are huge implications for national security as well as consumer privacy against corporations. Plenty of unsavory reasons for people to push this technology that have nothing to do with protecting children.” theintercept.com/2023/10/01/ap

Twitter / X is serving users with a new ad format that can't be blocked or reported

the ads aren't even actual X posts & aren't connected to any X accounts. they do not disclose that they are ads

it appears the ads are connected to clickbait ad networks

"It’s up to us as parents to break the cycle and teach our children how to think openly, be accepting, respectful and understanding of others, and to make the right decisions for themselves and their own sexual health." newyorkfamily.com/how-to-raise

"Comprehensive data privacy legislation is the best way to hold tech companies accountable in our surveillance age, including for harm they do to children."

"the abuse we continuously uncover in this industry is beyond just a few programs. These abusive practices are reported across the board and are ingrained in the pervasive culture of the Troubled Teen Industry." reason.com/2023/08/06/inside-a

"The repercussions of the abuse are devastating: At least a dozen boys died by suicide in 2022, after they were blackmailed, according to the FBI." washingtonpost.com/parenting/2

Friendly reminder that the same government that wants access to all of your encrypted DMs can't even keep classified information from being leaked in a video game.

They cancelled a marathon in October because it’s too hot!

Maybe when sporting events that don’t suck get canceled, people will start to care about climate change. 🙃
